Germany plans to buy up to 35 US-made F-35 fighter jets and 15 Eurofighter jets, a parliamentary source said Monday, as part of a major push to modernise the armed forces in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The F-35 jets made by Lockheed Martin would replace Germany's decades-old Tornado fleet, according to media reports confirmed by the source.
Tornados are the only Luftwaffe planes capable of carrying US nuclear bombs stationed in Germany that are a key part of NATO deterrence.

Why not buy a plane that works??
Yes, this is the lede of the articles about this deal I've seen here on German tv.
Germans are morbidly fascinated about the fact that Germany is a de facto nuclear power by virtue of its option to ask the U.S. for the go-ahead to bomb its own territory with atomic weapons.
Regards,
Wow, this entire event sure is profitable to some companies.
My guess this is not out right buy. It is money we appropriate for aid. Aid to whom, our defense industry of course!
Nope: The Luftwaffe is alive and flying - still under the same name!
However, the terms Wehrmacht and Heer have been replaced with Bundeswehr ("Volksarmee" in the East until 1991).
Ranks have been NATOized, too. No longer any Feldmarschälle, for example.

Shouldn’t even be a country. "
UP UR FINNEGAN, again&,again&,again&,again&,again&
Pacifists are like non-drinkers. There are two groups:
1) The moralists who hate alcohol have never touched the stuff and never will
2) The recovering alcoholics who love booze so much that they do bad things when they get it.
Germans are the second group of teetotalers when it comes to war.
Buying fighter jets that will require Russian fuel in order to fly them?
And pay all the costs associated with too!
This right here. Germany should’ve ceased to exist after WW2 and should’ve been permanently divided and ceded to its neighbors, even Hitler said Germany should cease to exist should it lose.
Cause u guys always come in near the end, when we're almost played out..... then you can claim the EASY victory!
While were at it Why did the NORKS BEATYOU.... whyrag-tag NVietNam whip you? An while we're at it, AfganiNOstan!
SHUVE Ur HATE all Germans up Ur OBAMA!!!
Well, it’s a pretty generic name: “air weapon.” Makes sense that they’d stick with it. Even with regime change, countries still usually stick with generic names like “army” and “navy” for their fighting forces. The exception would be highly politicized fighting forces like the “People’s Liberation
Army,” various “Red Guards,” Cromwell’s “New Model Army” etc.
STFU, Adolf.
The European Union (EU) has always been a big bicycle. The two wheels are Germany and France. When the wheels come off the Union is done. I am surprised that it has survived as long as it has.
Germany’s Leadership sold them to Russia. Former PM, Gerhard Schröder is now employed by Putin as the Director of Gazprom and Chairman of Rosneft! Merkel, who grew up in East Germany, joined the “Free German Youth” (the official communist youth group), and graduated from Karl Marx University, surrendered Germany’s energy dependence to Russia while watching NATO and German militaries crumble. I’m sure she’s disappointed her future employer is going broke.
I wonder if Obama and Biden will get cushy Director and Chairman jobs in China?
Very good move by Germany. They may even exceed that 2% of GDP budget that Trump beat them over the head with. Our guy was right - once again.
And based on the performance of the Russian Air Force this time around the F35 should dominate the airspace if it comes to a Russia-Germany engagement,
What are you babbling about?
I guess better than Mescherschmitdts, Heinkels and those other Fokkers.
A couple of years ago, I read a book written around 1900, on The World's Greatest Generals. I was particularly fascinated by the chapter on The Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill.
His claim to fame was The Battle of Blenheim, where his multinational forces knocked France out of Austria, to the point where the French military would not return to prominence for a century until Napoleon emerged.
What caught my eye was one of his final victories of the campaign occurred at Traben-Trarbach, Germany. From 77-81, I lived in Traben-Trarbach when I was stationed in Germany. I never saw a memorial noting that victory, but why would I? That area was fought over by the Germans and French for at least 1000 years, and Churchill was a Brit...iow, there was no love lost between the parties.
On a rare sunny Sunday afternoon, I'd drive south to Trier, and enjoy a glass of wine in an open air cafe, just a hundred meters or so from the Porta Nigra, built by the Romans when they founded Trier circa AD 6.
Or I'd travel north to Koblenz and stop by the Konigsbacher Brewery for lunch. They served bock beer year round, and their restaurant had a great view of the Rhine River. Konigsbacher has been in business since 1689, has always been a favorite beer of mine.
I've been a customer of Weingut Eduard Kroth for 40 years. It's been a family operated business since 1503, and their Riesling wines are my favorites.
An unspoken reason for the formation of NATO was to keep them from threatening the rest of the Europe, as they have been known to do for centuries.
They might have to cut some of their socialist spending.
