I believe they were approaching a Russian checkpoint. Why would the Ukrainians shoot at them when their reporting was in their interests? If there was another Ukrainian checkpoint, why would they shoot at them after they passed the first?

BTW, I think a lot of these journalists are foolish wearing body armor and helmets because from a distance that makes them indistinguishable from combatants.
