There is a legal loophole. Russian-operated aircraft are not allowed in Western airspace. For that reason they can’t be flown back by Russian pilots. On the other hand, the owners can’t use their pilots to repossess because they are banned from the Russian airspace. Add to that a ban on Russian transactions meaning the companies do not get their lease payments anymore. Count the planes as a gift.

It seems that lessors, airlines, insurance companies, and banks will have real headaches ahead. This is on top of Covid-induced depression.
