Alec Baldwin didn't comprehend that he fired a live round at "Rust" cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, killing her, until hours later when a member of the Santa Fe's Sheriff's Office showed him the bullet after an interview, according to arbitration paperwork filed by his attorney on Friday.
According to the filing, Baldwin found it "unthinkable" that his gun would have a live bullet in it after the person responsible for checking it declared it as "cold."
"He was shocked," the filing says. "In his mind, it was outside the realm of all possibility that a live bullet could have been present on the ranch property or on the prop truck, let alone in the gun itself."
The detailed account of Baldwin's actions and thoughts on the "Rust" set on the day of the shooting were included in an arbitration case between the actor and the movie's production company.
The death of Hutchins and the injury of the movie's director Joel Souza have led to a web of lawsuits between the people involved in the movie's production and their family members, including a wrongful death lawsuit that Hutchins' husband Matt filed against Baldwin.
In Baldwin's arbitration claim, his lawyer says the "Rust" production company should be responsible for his personal legal defenses stemming from the shooting.

I assume hes been on lots of movies with guns. In my experience, any decent firearms person trains someone that you treat every weapon as if it is loaded, even if it isn’t.

So, did she just sit/stand there and take the round? Not scream out in pain? No fall to the ground, dying? No say a word? People didn’t rush to her aide?
He shoots her and things just keep humming along as if nothing happened?

In this case the damn thing had the audacity to fire while he was holding it, which makes it totally not his fault,of course.
Exactly. Pitiful when liars attempt to deceive believing everyone is as ignorant as they are.
That’s an accommodating way of handling evidence on the part of the Sheriff’s Office! Where was the evidence recovered, at the Trauma Center or the Medical Examiner’s Office? I wonder if they let him handle the bullet?

It goes back a bit longer than that. Baldwin's father was a Marine, an expert rifleman and a high school riflery coach.
The trigger pull, the bang and recoil, the scream, the collapse, the blood loss...
None of those were clues.
This is crap. Anyone who has fired blanks and live rounds can tell the difference in recoil immediately. As many movies as he’s made, he would have noticed right away that the gun kicked a hell of a lot more than it should have.
