The left is trying to say Trump was harming NATO which was Putin’s goal. But let’s be real. Trump only demanded NATO members meet their obligations and “pay their fair share“ which should in fact strengthen NATO because it wouldn’t be reliant on the USA taking up the slack. Trump was right to call out our allies to do their part in defense of their nations or pay us to take up their slack. It wasn’t that he believed in a weak America, far from it, he believed in strengthened allies. After all, it’s their borders and blood and treasure on the front line. Not ours. Trump was no isolationist. Far from it. He knew a stronger West would keep China and Russia and others in line. Covid surely should’ve taught nations the high risks of outsourcing nationally strategic items. France and PPE, for example. Hopefully Germany and oil and gas as it and others in Europe abandoned nuclear power in an overreaction to Fukushima. You can’t go green without nuclear power as a corner stone. And you don’t want to feed your enemies war machine coffers becoming energy dependent upon them. But hey, Nord Stream 2 good Keystone XL bad. SMH. Venezuelan despot’s oil good, Canadian shale oil bad.
Trump saw no reason for Americans to die when we could send weapons and let other people die for their own countries; US blood would no longer be wasted on nation-building.
If you look at it in broad strokes, Trump domestic policy in better economic outcomes for all Americans regardless of ethnicity or gender is reflected in his push to get our Allies to do their part. Trump understood having more winners is better for everyone. Weakness, over-dependence and poverty does not translate into prosperity, freedom and independence.
