Vladimir Putin has placed the head of the FSB's foreign service and his deputy under house arrest after blaming them for intelligence failings that saw his army handed a series of embarrassing defeats in Ukraine, it has been claimed.

Andrey Soldatov, a respected author on the Russian secret services, said sources inside the FSB told him that Sergey Beseda, 68, head of the agency's foreign service, has been placed under arrest on Putin's orders.

Also arrested is Anatoly Bolyukh, Beseda's deputy, according to Soldatov, who said Putin is 'truly unhappy' with the agency - which he ran before becoming president.

Putin needs to go.

Someone else is going to need to clean up the mess, and the sooner the better

The FSB security service allegedly handed him intelligence suggesting that Ukraine was weak, riddled with neo-Nazi groups, and would give up easily if attacked.

"We have only to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down." I swear I've heard that one before somewhere...

Grabbing all of the native majority Rooskie provinces may have made some sense.

Attacking Kiev and the rest of the Klaus Schwab/Victoria Neuland provinces much less so.

Somewhere in that bureaucracy, like in every bureaucracy, there are poor underappreciated saps sticking it out because they don’t want things to be worse. Other than that…

Well it was like when Hitler got Danzig, did he stop?

Now is this really Putin’s plan? I think his expectation was basically to get Ukraine to sign the deal before the rest of the world even noticed what was happening.

I’m sure Putin surrounds himself with YES-MEN. So he gets to hear what he wants to hear. That doesn’t play well in a time of war.

Waiting for the Stalinist type purges and the reopening of the Siberian Gulags.....

Personally, I’d be pissed as hell too. The Ukrainian invasion has made the Russian military look like an utter joke.

I think you put your finger on it. What we have here is a failure of leadership at the top.

If you go by the Ukrainian numbers, Russia as lost about 3% of their military hardware, give or take.

I don’t see the point of house arrest, unless it makes it more plausible that the man committed suicide instead of getting killed while in prison. I’m pretty sure that not only is his house really nice, but once he slips out the back, he can easily be on his way across a border somewhere.

Imagine what this guy could sell to the West. He’s dangerous and as far as Putin is concerned, he’s a dead man walking. I’d say Putin is better off if the guy commits suicide, thus it’s in the man’s interest to slip out the back, Jack. Make a new plan, Stan.

Gaming this out a bit, this move is going to make Putin’s other little helpers more than a bit nervous and you don’t want your allies to start thinking they’re safer if you’re dead.

Khrushchev was so afraid of Stalin that he stayed as close the front lines as possible for fear if he was easily available the NKVD would execute him. All because he was afraid of Stalin. Now, imagine Khrushchev had the power and money of Putin’s allies. Would he have stayed close to the front lines or would he have paid someone to kill Stalin?

Sounds like Putin’s Generals don’t agree with his military exploits.
