As gas prices spike, California focuses on zero-emission cars

It’s full speed ahead for zero-emission cars in California.

The Golden State got the green light Wednesday to proceed with its nation-leading clean car program after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reinstated a waiver reaffirming its decades-old authority to set emission limits stricter than the federal government’s — setting the stage for California to develop auto emission rules to meet Gov. Gavin Newsom’s goal of eliminating new gas-powered cars by 2035.

Nearly half of Russian oil shipped into the U.S. last year ended up primarily in refineries in California, Washington and Hawaii, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Newsom is in collusion with Putin. Where's the Russia Gate crowd?

More leftist stupidity.

ALL energy forms price is going up. Its just that gasoline is more immediate and visible. Do people really believe electricity will not be affected?

Gas-powered cars have never been cleaner and more fuel efficient than they are today, and developing technology is likekly to make them burn cleaner, more efficiently and more economically than ever before. Why don’t we focus on THAT solution?

Hey Cali dumb asses! EVs require 13 critical minerals from 13 different supply chains from 60 countries. And the absolutely require Russian Nickel and Russian Zinc.

The sections against Russia will effect the production of electric vehicles much more than gas ones.

The environ-MENTAL protection agency . . .

As it is, I believe the state of California can set these requirements under the 10th Amendment. However, they’re being stupid, and could upend the entire U.S. car market, since they’re the most populous state.

A car that runs out of gas because the owner can’t afford to fill it is a zero emission car.

Silly Rabbit! Today's cars spew out "dirty carbon" in the form of CO2 that cannot be engineered out because the byproducts of perfect hydrocarbon combustion are water and Carbon Dioxide.

HxCx+O2=H2O+CO2.

So even if you created the perfect combustion engine that was 100% efficient, you'd still be spewing out "dirty Carbon" Dioxide, the nasty greenhouse gas and plant fertilizer, don'tcha know.

Good point. I just got my car smogged yesterday in order to get the car registered for the year. It was way under the CA standards for emissions.

Calling an electric car “zero emission” is like calling an expensive wedding reception “zero waste”, because, after all, the caterers clean up everything, resulting in nothing ending up in one’s own garbage cans.

California wants to get rid of single family housing. Wants high density multistory housing structures with no parking. How are these residents going to change their EVs?

Their electrical infrastructure is being simultaneously downgraded with unreliable solar and wind sources replacing dependable conventional and nuclear. Even before the added demand from electric vehicles they were already guaranteed brownouts and rolling blackouts from a failing electric grid.

The lessons from the February 2021 Texas power outage debacle have been completely forgotten or glossed over... We are told that the reason the power went out when the cold snap hit was not because solar and wind generation suddenly stopped producing power. No, it was because natural gas and coal power plants were not able to make up for the sudden loss. Yes, it was a failure of conventional power sources... that is the ticket!
