Do you think they care about that? He spoke spoke Russian, and lived most of his life in Russia. Tchaikovsky was no nationalist. Bulgakov and Prokofiev were Russians born in the Ukraine.

All these died long before the current situation. And the Russian government doesn't benefit financially from their works. What do they get, bragging rights?

Many of these Russia writers and composers were banned in their own country.

Just noting ironies. The modern world is insane of course.

Ref for a primer on the Russian (and Ukranian!) cultural renaissance of the 19th century, and its destruction in modern times, Orlando Figes, “Natashas Dance”. A fascinating read, and I learned a lot about what I thought I already knew.
