IRS plans to hire 10,000 workers to relieve massive backlog

WASHINGTON (AP) — The IRS said Thursday it plans to hire 10,000 new workers to help reduce a massive backlog that the government says will make this tax season the most challenging in history.

The agency released a plan to work down the tens of millions of filings that includes speeding up the traditionally slow hiring process, relying more on automated processes and bringing on more contract workers to help with mailroom and paper processing.

Getting it done will be the big challenge, tax experts say.

The agency faces a backlog of around 20 million pieces of correspondence, which is more than 15 times as large as in a normal filing season, according to the agency. And the IRS workforce is the same size it was in 1970, though the U.S. population has grown exponentially and the U.S. tax code has become increasingly complicated.

Additionally, the need to administer pandemic-related programs has imposed an entirely new workload on the agency.

I can see the ‘RATs starting investigations of non-’RAT Americans. That’s probably what this is all about. The IRS was one of the first government agencies weaponized by the Kenyan when he was the so-called president.

Get rid of the IRS. Wouldn’t that be a populist idea? Replace it with a national sales tax. The thought of elimination would drown out the charges of raising taxes on the poor and the racism charge to come.

Why aren’t the existing losers doing their jobs?

“More audits.”

My thoughts exactly.

With increasing use of electronic filing IRS workforce should be shrinking not growing...

Honestly, we don't want them to do their job. We WANT them to suck at everything they do. Nothing but a bunch of parasites anyway.

The scope of the job expanded when Brandon demanded all bank transactions over $600.

What happened to all the workers the IRS hired to enforce the Obamacare mandates that were never enforced anyway?

The IRS sent me a letter that I hadn’t filed my taxes for 2020. This, despite cashing the check I sent along with the forms I filed.

My experiences with government at several levels in recent years has been one of total, unbelievable incompetence.

The IRS became one of the earliest proponents of unionization.

If the union is not doing its job, or actively impeding the workplace, then decertify the union and take possession of all of its communications and bank accounts.

If its good enough for Canada to steal from its citizens, then how else can the citizens take back what is supposed to be theirs in the first place?
