For the reasons I gave, that's pretty cracked reasoning.
I suppose if you look at exactly the blockade portion of the Cuban Missile Crisis, then you are correct. I wasn’t really seeing that as an isolated incident however, and I don’t think anyone can.
Immediately prior to the Soviets installing missiles in Cuba, the United States led an invasion of Cuba to overthrow its leader. When that failed, we attempted to assassinate its leader. This is because Cuba was aligned with the Soviets.
The same year as the Bay of Pigs Invasion (which is prior to the CMC), the United States deployed Jupiter ICBMs in Turkey. Not only did Turkey border the Soviet Union, but those missiles were within range of Moscow. The Soviet Union responded by installing ballistic missiles in Cuba. The rest is history...
None of this justifies the Russian invasion of Ukraine of course, but I think it’s a valid analogy. Did the US have the right to lead the BOP Invasion? (Okay, yes that’s technically different than the CMC, but I don’t see them as separate conflicts as much as two different incidents in a larger conflict.)
