Logan Act.
Taking this in a slightly different direction:
What actual good would 30 Mig29s do for Ukraine?
Russia has abundant planes, BUK and other missile systems, etc. to shoot them down.
Planes require airbases with ground crews, logistics, armaments, etc. Wouldn’t the Russkies track the planes back to their bases and rain missiles down on them?
The retired Ukrainian pilots might get some satisfying licks in, and destroy some Russian materiale — at the almost certain sacrifice of the planes, valiant pilots and crews. Russia can just ramp up its air presence to offset a small force like this.
The reason for the Migs is to draw other countries into the conflict. I can’t blame Ukraine for wanting help, but that would be an incredibly foolish thing, and the worst way to go about it. The sort of thing an ignoramus like Sean Penn would jump into.
You guys have got this all wrong! It is James Bond that we need. Problem solved!!
heard it reported that the Migs are “Polish made”
didn’t know poland had an aircraft mfg??
The Logan Act (18 U.S. Code § 953) makes it illegal for U.S. citizens to engage in unauthorized foreign diplomacy, including to “influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government” or to “defeat the measures of the United States.”
Yes, and I don't understand it. Quite apart from the terrible politics and corruption on all sides that essentially gave Putin a green light to invade, we conservatives normally are for the principles enumerated in our Bill of Rights, including the right of self-defense.
Yes, some of Putin's domestic policies have a US-type conservative veneer, but it is only a veneer. It is no reason to support him in any way, particularly as he indiscriminately butchers innocent people.
Although Russia is an oligarchy these days, Putin is a life-long communist. He has far more in common with our modern Democrat Party than he has with US-type conservatism.
That was a the worst Vietnam movie ever made

I will point out the prevalence of nevertrumper amongst the hawks here is high
I try to resist harping on that but there it is
My biggest concern is not any of this
It’s the uniform info control and a barrage of propaganda likes I’ve never ever seen and from unlikes bedfellows ...progressives neocons and some GOPe
That concerns me far more than Putin versus Zelensky
I’d credit the mother a bit more.

“Zelenskyy doesn’t care if the world is dragged into WWIII.”
At this point his behavior is starting to be questionable. Repeatedly asking for these Migs while the majority of his air fleet sits on the ground unused is telling.
He wants the world to bail out Ukraine—or he’s going to end up dead when Kiev falls. He would LOVE, US Troops, NATO forces, and Supplies come in —and for that purpose expect a steady diet of Ukraine Propaganda—More real and imagined atrocities. People need to get it in their heads—War is an Atrocity. People die in horrible ways. Its not clean like a videogame — no more second lives. Its terrible and shouldn’t have been encouraged. If I was the president of Ukrain I would o
The US is on the verge of sending him billions. He won’t quit before the check clears.
Agree with everything there. Looks like we’re missing something at the end though.
“He wants the world to bail out Ukraine—or he’s going to end up dead when Kiev falls. “
That’s what I mean by “telling”. He’s becoming ‘drowning man’ irrational.
“The US is on the verge of sending him billions. He won’t quit before the check clears.”
Of course. They want to drag this thing out to the midterms.
