The United States thinks that Russia has no right to resolve the question of Ukraine's entry to NATO, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor has said.
"This is a decision taken by Ukrainians for themselves. Nobody wants to pull them into [the alliance]," he said on the Fifth TV channel late on Thursday.
"Russia decides nothing here. Of course, we want Ukraine to have good relations with Russia, even when it [Ukraine] joins the alliance. But the final decision remains for Ukraine. Here, Russia has no right to say 'yes' or 'no,'" Taylor said.
Asked whether U.S. President Barack Obama would visit Ukraine, he said that active talks are being held regarding the plan and schedule of his visits.
"There were invitations from the Ukrainian side [for Obama] to visit Ukraine. There was also an invitation to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Now these invitations are being thoroughly studied so that such a visit can be planned," Taylor said. He said that it should be taken into account that an Obama visit during the presidential election campaign in Ukraine should not be viewed as the U.S. intervention in presidential elections.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should have signed a memorandum on mutual understanding between the governments of Ukraine and the United States regarding cooperation in nuclear safety in Vilnius (Lithuania) on July 1, but the document has not been signed, according to the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia Ukraine weekly with reference to its own source.
According to the edition, the United States expressed readiness to provide Ukraine with a compensation of about $40 million for the export of all highly enriched uranium and has delivered some low-enriched uranium to Ukraine for Kyiv Institute for Nuclear Research and started activities to strengthen the technical potential of Sevastopol University of Nuclear Energy and Industry.
