This story seems to have some merit. I wonder how many officials in charge of the military are getting “gently interrogated” in Moscow?

Whatever corruption is behind the Russian Army’s supply and equipment problems will likely cease fairly quickly. Any deficiencies in resources, technology or time will not be so easily addressed.

Generally, to more authoritarian a regime is, the more corruption there is because all the normal forces (such as a press or opposition party, etc) that counter corruption is removed.

I have no doubt the Chinese military is even more corrupt.

BTRs are 8-wheeled APCs thus subject to dry rot of tires. BMPs, BMD’s and the many variants of the MTLB are all tracked vehicles

overestimated the Russian military, which he dedicated billions of dollars to modernizing. But this money, Kozyrev claimed, may have been lost to Russia’s endemic corruption.

So, might this also be true for China?

Notice the media fails to mention in his next post

“3. The West. The Russian ruling elite believed its own propaganda that Pres. Biden is mentally inept. They also thought the EU was weak because of how toothless their sanctions were in 2014. And then the U.S. botched its withdrawal from Afghanistan, solidifying this narrative.”

No mention of Biden’s ineptitude solidified Putin’s resolve.

Back in the 80’s I remember seeing a few issues of a Soviet magazine called ..(wait for it) “Soviet Life’’.

It was weird. No advertising in it. Just glowing articles on everything Soviet. Serious scientists designing the next what ever space project , happy kids, Young Pioneers stuff and of course the obligatory "Great Patriotic War'' story with the obligatory picture of some Red Army hero captured in the moment of battle and ''who was this hero''? And as the caption would read the hero was found to be such and such and he either lived to defeat the "Hitlerites'' or he /she died in battle. It was weird.

My favorite SOVIET LIFE cover story from circa 1978, “LEONARD BREZHNEV WINS THE LENIN PEACE PRIZE”. Who would imagine that he could “win”?
