Why would continued destruction of Ukraine and loss of life be worth holding off for a better deal? This decision is for the Russians and Ukrainians to hash out.

I agree. Nobody else can force either nation to accept anything at this point. I was just suggesting what I personally thought would be a reasonable counter. That's the kind of opinion people.offer.on message boards all the time, right?

Not do I particularly want more countries joining NATO.

I think NATO membership makes it less likely that there will be a war involving member states, so I'm not opposed to expanding it under the right circumstances.

Yup. I assume any Russian first offer is meant to be countered. But I’m just tired of watching Biden fumble through this and of course start sending troops and billions of dollars that we can’t afford to “rebuild and stabilize” that shithole.

NATO membership would mean weapon systems (including nukes) right next door to Russia. And Russia needs Ukrainian ports and water. Kamala inflamed the situation by suggesting it was a possibility when she went over there.
