One thing is apparent. The Russian military is not the formidable juggernaut that the West once feared. They may perform well if Russia itself were invaded but their severe limitations when they invade foreign territory is a real eye opener. Very much doubt they have the capacity to invade Poland or pick a fight with NATO. Putin has badly hurt Russia with his catastrophic bad mistake. IMHO he will soon be deposed. Yet a wounded, hounded man clutching nuclear weapons is desperate and dangerous. It would be wise to diplomatically somehow entice him with a guaranteed exit.

I’m skeptical. Putin is a first-rate schemer. Even a second-rater like Kim Il-sung, chosen by Stalin for his obedience rather than ability, managed to lose an entire army during the Korean War, starve his people via multiple famines and not only stay in power, but hand it on to his son, Kim Jong-il.
