Ukraine is the “Breadbasket of Europe”. The United States is the “Breadbasket of the World”
And how does this affect us? Like fuel, why an increase in price since we don’t really buy any from Russia or Ukraine. This is fearmongering-driven price inflation.
Heck of price to pay for refusing to be a neutral Ukraine (not in NATO) and to stop shelling the Donbas.
“The Russian tanks and missiles besieging Ukraine also are threatening the food supply and livelihoods of people in Europe, Africa and Asia who rely on the vast, fertile farmlands of the Black Sea region”
Ya , the US and Canada grow no Grain ,D’oh
And look at the writers names. Are those common in Kentucky?
While it is true that Ukraine and Russian harvests will be lower than usual, that is not the only problem. Due to less availability of natural gas fertilizer production is down and fertilizer is much more expensive. This has especially affected crop yields in South America. Due to very heavy rains China announced its winter wheat yield will be down by more than 20%. Shortages, energy curtailments, inflation will not only diminish supplies but the increased prices will make food inaccessible for poor people around the war. If there is a natural or weather disaster in India or China, real famine would be likely. Social, political and economic disorder will follow. There will be more wars.
