In the text of the 13th amendment it’s crystal clear. Yes it’s slavery. Woodrow Wilson used a legalistic game to start it again. He said when congress declared war, the entire nation has volunteered collectively through its representatives. He said he was not drafting anyone, he was “selecting” from a giant pool of volunteers. That’s why it’s called selective service. A progressive Supreme Court agreed.
Call it what you want, it’s involuntary servitude that is not punishment for a crime. The 13th gives no other exception to its prohibition.
Ukraine needs slave soldiers.
Being drafted into military service is not “involuntary servitude”. It’s a duty that comes along with citizenship. I’ve seen some crazy takes on this site, but that’s one of the craziest.
Trying to cite the 13th amendment which was just passed by people who USED THE DRAFT to win the war that they fought to abolish slavery is a real “genius” moment.
“Ukraine needs slave soldiers.”
Oh yeah, genius, Russia has universal conscription, even in peacetime. So if you actually believed this, you would be condemning them for being even worse than the Ukrainians in that regard. But you’re not. So we know your argument isn’t even genuine, just a pretext.
