On Escalation. Herman Kahn 1965
On Escalation ^ | 1965 | Herman Kahn

In this widely discussed and influential book, Herman Kahn probes the dynamics of escalation and demonstrates how the intensification of conflict can be depicted by means of a definite escalation ladder, ascent of which brings opponents closer to all-out war. At each rung of the ladder, before the climb proceeds, decisions must be made based on numerous choices. Some are clear and obvious, others obscure, but the options are always there.

Thermonuclear annihilation, says Kahn, is unlikely to come through accident; but nations may elect to climb the ladder to extinction. The basic material for the book was developed in briefings delivered by Kahn to military and civilian experts and revised in the light of his findings of a trip to Vietnam in the 1960s. In On Escalation he states the facts squarely. He asks the reader to face unemotionally the terrors of a world fully capable of suicide and to consider carefully the alternatives to such a path.

Everyone in DC needs to stop, step back and ask if we really want to continue up this ladder. The oligarchs in DC, who don’t care two craps about us, need to remember that they and their children will be the first to be vaporized. This is a very important book. We should all be aware of this process and the nuances of the shorter rungs on the escalatory ladder.

You are wrong. The elite leaders have their bunkers and shelters.

Some may not survive, but that is still collateral damage to the overall movement towards "The Great Reset"....and this war is the greatest opportunity to enact that reset.

Remember Obama saying that the US could absorb a nuclear attack?

They have every intention of letting Russia hit us and Europe without retaliation. The resulting chaos and economic collapse will set the stage for a "new peace" with Russia and their ability to enact "The Great Reset".

I truly believe this is their moment. If they do not make it happen now, they will lose power for years, maybe a decade, before they get to try again.

In a post EMP world, even they would be hurrying to die. You know who is watching this, feet kicked back, sipping an umbrella drink on some lazy Chinese resort town beach? Xi, the man who picks up all the pieces after this plays out between his two arch enemies.

Well, our Democrats have been seriously in bed with the CCP at least since Clinton.

The hysterial and hyperbole around a few nuclear strikes is laughable. There are nearly 150 Japanese who, unfortunately, were in both Nagasaki and Hiroshima and survived both. Yes, those were smaller, but people survive. Places can be rebuilt. We are talking about elitists who already believe the world is overpopulated. Lastly, nobody knows the true EMP damage from a nuclear strike. It could be widespread and it could be nothing. Regardless, the titans of Silicon Valley, will be happy to step up and build new IT infrastructure everywhere.

I don’t think you’re looking at the EMP effect I’m talking about. You could be 500 miles upwind of the explosion and never knew it happened. You wouldn’t know because nothing would work. Anything that has any circuitry, transistors, any non vacuum tube electronic device would never work again. No electric transmission lines, no trucks, cars, planes, zip. There would be no escape. Most Americans would die from starvation, not radiation or blast.

As I stated, the effects from an EMP are not well known.

You are merely speculating.

Sure thing. Not a damn thing to concern yourself about.

Good discussion—I just read a few articles with varying views on the subject—The opinions are all over the place.

It seems like everything else these days—lots of heat and not a lot of light.

Sure thing. Not a damn thing to concern yourself about.

Instead of being a Schiff and lying about what I said, just admit that nobody knows what the EMP effects might be from a nuclear strike.

I never dismissed it as "not a damn thing to concern yourself about". That is trying to put words in my mouth.

I could just as easily call you "hysterical" for what you posted. Instead, I tried to introduce what we know, not speculation.

Sorry that you find a need to be stubborn on this. I try to keep an open mind and avoid the very emotional views of things.
