When Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the country’s nuclear forces to go on high alert last week, he looked down a long table at his defense minister, Sergei Shoigu, who nodded in assent.
...
Russian troops’ failure to quickly seize Ukraine, however, has shown Mr. Shoigu’s changes, while real, didn’t create the fearsome fighting force he touted. Poor logistics, flawed strategy and ill-prepared troops mean any victory will be immensely costly, and an occupation hard to sustain.

“By agreeing to these assumptions and this type of operation, he has essentially thrown the Russian military into a disaster.”

How has the WSJ come to know this? Or is it just propaganda?
Check out the extraordinary security measures Putin had today in St. Petersburg against the protesters:

That is Palace Square near the Hermitage Museum, for those who have been to St. Petersburg
Putin arrested 4,400 today in 56 cities and so a big jump in total protesters arrested to over 10,000
May be the best fake story of the day.
If Russia wanted to break the place....they could do it in a day......
Oh? Because the news is omnipresent and omniscient. Like God, only without Grace, Redemption, or Forgiveness.
But it does get a great number of worshipers.
Sounds kinda like W’s military chiefs…
But there is no internet to Russia or Twitter or Facebook?
They never use the Q(uagmire) word unless it’s the United States or Israel. Strange.
Funny, Suddenly the wsj, nyt and washington compost are unquestionable sources for the truth. What’s next? cnn, msnbc and axio?
Why would they release a photo like that? Makes Putin look paranoid and isolated.

In real life, 50% of the Ukrainian territory minus Nazi Galicia is under Russian control and that is after 10 days of operation.
Ukraine is only winning by stupid staged online videos selling its own losses for the foiled Russian offensive.
The European countries need to take notes. If it was Germany it could have been under full Russian control by now.
“If Russia wanted to break the place....they could do it in a day...”
Thats not an understatement. I wonder if there is a microphone on Putins end and a speaker two blocks away on the other?
The territory of Ukraine was never the final objective - Putin really wants to force NATO into an untenable position in regards to further expansion of members. While it would be “nice” to be able to exploit the Ukraine resources, the Ukrainians are a very fractious people, and occupying the territory would be as much a disaster for the Russian Federation as the occupation of Afghanistan was for the Soviet Union.
The game might not be worth the time, treasure and military assets that would have to be expended to effectively control the Ukraine.
