A Ukrainian peace negotiator has been shot dead ahead of the latest round of talks to end the war amid claims he was a Russian spy.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defence said Denis Kireev, 45, was a spy and former banker who was killed during an operation to 'defend the nation'.

After his death, the government hailed him as a 'hero' but MPs claimed he was shot and killed by Ukraine's security service after resisting arrest on suspicion of 'treason'.

Mr Kireev was pictured sat on the Ukrainian side of the negotiating table during last week's peace talks with Russia on February 28, despite not being on the official delegation list, and his role at the summit is unclear.

This keeps getting weirder. He is shot as a spy, and also called a “hero”? These people aren’t all on the same page, kind of like the Biden administration.

"Who knows what to believe, it’s all propaganda."

Our media (and some on here) demonize anyone who asks questions as a "Putin stooge." But years of gaslighting have had their result - our reflex is to doubt the media narrative on anything political or cultural. The only things we can trust are ballgame scores.

“Naturally, the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship.”

“There is one difference,” I pointed out. “In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars.”

“Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”

He was part of Azov.

“ Denis Kireev, a Member of Ukraine’s Negotiation Team, Has Been Killed: Reports
https://link.theepochtimes.com/mkt_app/denis-kireev-a-member-of-ukraines-negotiation-team-has-been-killed-reports_4319431.html

“They died, defending Ukraine, and their act brought us closer to victory! On behalf of the Chief Management of Intelligence, we express our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased,” the statement said. “Heroes don’t die! They live until we remember them! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!””

And btw That is the Azov chant. (But they also add Death to the enrmies in their meetings Ie training)

I read he was arrested, and when phone transcripts confirmed treason, he was shot.

My guess is he was trying to negotiate restoration of Yanukovych.

“That calls for imprisonment, interrogation, and a trial.”

Certainly. In peacetime.

Certainly. In peacetime.

Even in war time, you want to keep him alive for interrogation. Ukraine's opposition leader is in detention right now. It's not like this guy was on a battlefield firing bazookas at his own countrymen. It is easy to call your political opponents "spies". Bad guys all around here.

“Even in war time, you want to keep him alive for interrogation.”

Or you interrogate him, then execute him and let it be publicly known as a deterrent.

“Ukraine’s opposition leader is in detention right now.”

Sure, that sounds bad. Certainly it’s bad when Russia does it, as they constantly do. However, in a country like Ukraine where both sides of the political divide seem to be subject to foreign influence, an “opposition leader” may well be in bed with the country invading them.
