“Siberia has tons of undeveloped natural resources and rare earth minerals.”
Yeah, undeveloped being the key word. Stuff sitting in the ground doing nothing doesn’t contribution to your national production.
And one more about Zelensky. Posting just a bit of it, not easy to copy. First couple of paragraphs are comparing to the situation to some super villain that I found boring and I have no idea what the super villain was anyway. But article is very good past that short bit. Excerpt:
I find it also ironic that the “crystal ball” head piece worn by Mysterio is often filled with smoke or fog to hide his true identity. Since the fog of war is so thick right now in Ukraine, it is my hope that I can present a clearer picture of who Volodymyr Zelenskyy truly is.
In the spirit of full disclosure, Zelenskyy had me fooled. Heading into this conflict with Russia I was of the opinion that Zelenskyy was a good guy. Afterall, Trump’s famous “perfect call” that he was impeached by the House of Representatives for was with Zelenskyy. Volodymyr fully cooperated with Trump in releasing the transcripts of that call and was helpful in Rudy Giuliani’s investigation of Ukraine. So, how did I get it wrong?
The short answer is, I didn’t really dig into who Zelenskyy really was. It was carelessness on my part I suppose. To be fair, I am not the only one who got it wrong so maybe Zelenskyy did a good job of deception. It makes sense, Zelenskyy was/is an actor. I seem to recall someone saying that “great movies need great actors.” Well, I wouldn’t describe Zelenskyy as a great actor, but he did star in many roles before taking his position as President of Ukraine. The most famous of the roles that Zelenskyy was in 2015:
Zelenskyy became the star of the television series Servant of the People, where he played the role of the president of Ukraine.[25] In the series, Zelenskyy’s character was a high-school history teacher in his 30s who won the presidential election after a viral video showed him ranting against government corruption in Ukraine. – Wikipedia
But before we get into his acting career it is important to know that Zelenskyy was born to Jewish parents in the city of Kryvyi Rih which then was part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. He is a Russian speaking Jew, and that fact will come into play later. Zelenskyy received a degree in Economics and Technology from the Kryvyi Rih State University and later a law degree from the Kryvyi Rih Institute of economics. Zelenskyy did not pursue a career in economics or law but rather chose to go into acting and comedy.
Already a picture is being created of an actor being well educated in law and economics. These are potentially powerful skills for a superhero to wield against an enemy. This is especially true if the role of that superhero would be the president of the most corrupt countries in the world…Ukraine.

“The US and NATO agreed with Russia in 1991 that they would not move to make former satellite nations members of NATO.”
Yeah, and Russia agreed to guarantee the territorial sovereignty of ex-Soviet states that gave up their nuclear weapons. We have both violated our agreements.
We seem to be balancing on the brink starting the cycle of civilization all over again. Actually, I think I will fit in better once that happens.
If you read and study up on the situation, you would know. I have spend many many hours doing so. I cannot do someone else’s home work. When the “Euro Maidan protests” happened, I read about the whole situation then. It was very educational and caww did incredible work posting articles. The scene has only deteriorated since then. I do have time to post a very short list of important facts.
1. Ukraine has a big neo nazi problem and has had for years. The Svoboda party has a paramilitary wing called Pravi Sektor which is basically a terrorist entity. During the 2014 or so “protests” (many protestors were hired, it was not a grassroots effort, but rather a Soros/US funded so-called Color Revolution) around 100 protestors were killed by snipers. The claim was that it was “Russians”. It was Pravi Sektor paramilitary, killing Ukrainian citizens, to force the president out in a coup.
2. Hatred of and repression of Russian speaking citizens has gone on a for a long time and was ramping up even then, and led to a civil war that has killed many people in the eastern part of Ukraine. The neo Nazi Azov Battalaion and another one whose name I can’t remember, were funded by corrupt private entities but have since been assimilated or authorized by the Urkaine government and they are very active against Ru speaking Ukrainians in the eastern part.
3. If one looks at the history of Ukraine, parts have been historically Russian and this has to be taken into consideration to understand the current scene. Many in eastern Ukraine want to be a separate country or countries, to stop the violence against them from the Ukraine government.
If Putin had been able to prevent the Ukraine government from killing and otherwise harming Ru speaking Ukrainians, he would have done so. That’s not even going into the biowarefare labs.
If the election had not been stolen and President Trump was officially in office, I am sure he would have worked with Russia and Ukraine and helped manage he situation so as to avoid what is happening now.
This is all I have time for.
Hey, maybe we should adopt that argument, then we could cut our foreign aid significantly!
One of the links you provided details the hypocrisy of NATO in bombing Serbia to get rid of Milosevic when Clinton was President and the bombing of Libya with France in the lead and the USA under Obama ( and Hillary) supporting the operation.
Ok, let’s grant these ( although the Serbian and Libyan circumstances are different ).
Because NATO was wrong to do these on both counts, what follows? Russia is also justified in emulating NATO’s misadventures?
The world should simply shrug its shoulders and say, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander?
World power is as world power does. And even if they were, who's to say what they "deserve?"
Have you ever read up on the Treaty of Versailles...?
What’s going on here?
Some people say Putin’s opposed to globalism, but that’s true only in that he’s opposed to the current makeup of globalism.
Putin’s plan for Eurasia: Breakup NATO, weaken the EU, neuter the U.S., while partnering with China in a giant Eurasia Union to control trade, energy and military power over Europe and Asia. To start.
Yes, and Hitler had a point. But once you start invading countries, nobody really cares about that anymore.
Until you actually spend time researching the history and real situation, there is no reason to discuss this.
“Putin’s reason for invading Ukraine is its repression of Russian speaking citizens in Ukraine?”
He’s just recycling Hitler’s old excuse for invading Czechoslovakia and Poland.
RE: If the election had not been stolen and President Trump was officially in office, I am sure he would have worked with Russia and Ukraine and helped manage he situation so as to avoid what is happening now.
I absolutely agree with this. But my point is still this — regardless of Russia’s grievances with Ukraine, Biden’s corruption and incompetence, NATO hypocrisy, bioweapons lab, etc. I STILL DO NOT SEE A GOOD JUSTIFICATION FOR INVADING UKRAINE.
All these issues can be solved diplomatically without going to war.
No European country is interested in occupying or taking over Russia. Even if we concede that Ukraine’s leadership is corrupt, MOST UKRAINIANS DON’T WANT TO BE PART OF RUSSIA .
There is an argument for the Russian speaking part of Ukraine to secede. But that can be negotiated without going to war. What Putin did is make a bad situation worse.
My point in Post #4 still stands.
Well frankly at this juncture there needs to be a solution. ....
First they need a cease- fire which Ukraine rogues have always had a difficult time doing. hus Russia will always respond. So that in itself is a huge undertaking. But that still should be the goal of both sides.
Negotiations need to continue to find those solutions...and those will be just as troublesome as they have been in the past.
Unlless these happen Putin will continue to reach his objections in Ukraine via the attacks we know are happening.
I don’t think anyone contemplating “pushing the button”. It’s a lot of bluster on both sides, but mainly Russia needs to continually remind people they have nukes because that’s the last claim it actually has to being a significant world power, and not just a regional bogeyman.
BTTT.
Just as Hitler said that Czechoslovakia was a product of the botched breakup of Austria-Hungary, Putin said Ukraine was a product of the botched breakup of the Soviet Union.
RE: Until you actually spend time researching the history and real situation, there is no reason to discuss this.
THAT is the point of this thread. To duscuss this. And please note, I an dealing exactly with history and real situation.
I want you to tell my why THIS JUSTIFIES AN INVASION.
RE: Putin’s plan for Eurasia: Breakup NATO, weaken the EU, neuter the U.S., while partnering with China in a giant Eurasia Union to control trade, energy and military power over Europe and Asia.
OK, if that’s the plan, what do we do about it? Just allow him to do it?
