A Russian attack helicopter makes a menacing low pass over a rural village in Ukraine, its gunship fully equipped with missiles and machine guns.
But, unknown to the crew of the state-of-the-art Mi-24 Hind aircraft, Ukrainian soldiers are waiting unseen in the line of trees below.
-snip-
Their deaths came on a day when Russian aerial forces lost as many as eight aircraft, as well as multi-role, strike and close air support aircraft and a drone.
Their losses, claimed by Ukrainian military sources, provide further evidence of Russia's failure to gain air superiority – a tactical advantage that Vladimir Putin thought would be achieved on the first day of the war.
But, ten days later, the Russian President's much-vaunted air force is still being picked off in ambushes by highly mobile Ukrainian air defence units equipped with the latest shoulder-fired rocket launchers.
In the incident pictured above, the Ukrainians are thought to have used a specialist short-range weapon system, the Polish PPZR Piorun, which is ideal for targeting low-flying helicopters.

The State of the Art Mi-24 Hind was state of the art back in the 1970s. Hell Rambo was shooting them down in his movies.

and around the same time there were explosions in Belgorod, just across the border from Kharkiv

I looked on a local Belgorod social media site and the authorities were informing everyone not to be concerned, it was 25 km away
But the locals in the comments weren’t buying the government story, based on the timing of the light followed by the sound of the explosions
I wouldn’t claim the whole Russian army is defecting, but their lack of morale and a lot of other things they lack, probably are having a very big impact.
Could be the difference between regrouping and holding the line, versus abandoning your vehicles and running.
Yep.
Even though I don’t like this conflict you’d think the officers in the Russian military would train their soldiers like we do. Article 3 of code of conduct cones to mind for me.

Out of over 1500 Russian war planes. Its a war, war equipment get destroyed on both sides.
They just have to brag about their rootin’ tootin’ Putin shootin’ — when they should not be talking at all. Let the invader wonder rather than adjust.
Yup.

Boy, do I agree with that.
The Daily Mail is usually a pretty reliable news source, but I still read it with a skeptical mind.
Ivan changed his tactics recently after so many supply columns were getting ambushed and wiped out
Now, the convoys are accompanied by an attack helicopter and an anti-missile mobile defense vehicle
so more helicopter targets if the Ukrainians can hit them
It seems that Russian losses are disproportionate to the size of the forces, however.
If body sides were equally equpped, it should be the Ukrainians that are getting hit hard, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.
I saw in another account that they captured some, or all of the Russian pilots which, if so, is evidence enough.
Good, because that would be an easily disproved lie.
, but their lack of morale and a lot of other things they lack, probably are having a very big impact.
And just how would you know any that?
