TREY GOWDY: Why do you think Putin is doing this? What is his end game?

COL. DOUG MACGREGOR: Well, Vladimir Putin is carrying through on something that he has been warning us about at least for the last 15 years, which is he will not tolerate U.S. forces or missiles on his borders. Much as we would not tolerate Russian missiles or troops in Cuba.

And we ignored him and he finally acted. He was not going to allow Ukraine, under any circumstances, to join NATO.

It’s not 1776...and it’s not our fight...in fact, we’ve cynically used Ukraine as a corrupt, puppet state to antagonize Putin and basically invited him to attack Ukraine hoping that might destabilize him...

Folks are calling Putin every name in the book......but please include Biden.....
He’s playing the same game with us....( actually, his advisors are)

He’s draining us dry.......and when the crapola hits the fan, where do we go?
What country do we escape to.

I can feel sadness for the people of Ukraine.....but I have only anger for how we are being played by this administration......by the hysteria ginned up by the media including Fox News).......by the misinformation, disinformation, lies!!!!!

I’m afraid and angry it will lead to our troops going over there!

This is Wag the Dog folks!
And we are the stooges!

... Stop Encouraging Ukrainians To Die In A Hopeless Endeavor"

Whether or not it is hopeless, that is for the Ukrainians to decide.

Retired colonel.

Means he didn’t have the chops to pull a star out of the good ol’ boys, or he was a lunatic they didn’t want in the club.

Hearing this sort of pro-tyranny drivel from this guy points to both, heavily on the latter.

Well, Mr. xzins, There is a very big cult on Free Republic who will settle for nothing less than a full scale nuclear war with Russia. These same individuals were absolutely mute when the United States under Bill Clinton was bombing Serbia in the same manner . Were Serb Lives less important than Ukraine lives? I would opine , no. What is at stake here is the source of the Politician's graft money and Fauci's and Big Pharma bio labs must be protected at all costs[ as long as it don't cost any Neo Cons their lives] and they get their share of the blood money.

If there is any way under the sun for the Neo Cons to get us into a full blown nuclear war with Russia before this is over. They will. Hoe much blood is spilled, they care not. As long as not one drop belongs to them.

Really? I simply do not understand how you can come to this conclusion about his ego being the driver for him wanting to "reconstitute... the USSR". Well, okay. Say it isn't his ego -- it's just some desire for nationalistic glory for his country in general to reconstitute an empire, and his ego doesn't factor into it. Either way, the whole "fear of invasion from the west" is crap.

He's flat out said that "Ukraine is part of Russia, we are one people, etc.", which is no different an argument than the British could have made in 1812 to re-subjugate the colonies. The Ukrainian people, as a whole, absolutely do not want to be ruled by Russia.

All the talk about corruption, the NWO, the Great Reset, etc., don't matter to me one bit, because the groups supporting Russia in this are at least as bad. This is about one nation choosing to conquer another nation simply because it can, and killing large number of people to make it happen. Simple as that.

And just to point out, I understand that Russia claims this is justified. I -- and apparently a lot of other people -- believe that it isn't. Russia's (or maybe just Putin's) subjective belief in its/his own righteousness doesn't change reality any more than did the beliefs of Napoleon or any other conqueror throughout history.

"Russia can have a ballistic missile sub right off our coast that would be closer to Washington D.C. than any Ukrainian-based missiles would be to Russia."

And so could our Tridents, not TO mention France and UK are nuclear powers.

I don't know what the deal is with Russia and Ukraine, but I do believe Putin's mention of using nukes is a bluff. He may be an imperialistic SOB who longs for the old Soviet empire, but I'm don't think he's a crazy SOB who has forgotten Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD).

Let them fight it out and Europe protect itself. NO MORE AMERICAN KIDS KILLED OR MAIMED!

Ukraine dammed up a canal off the Dnepra River which feeds 86% of drinking water to Crimea. The canal was built in the Soviet Era. Crimea has been rationing water only making it available for two hours a day and then it comes out as a trickle from the tap. Russia has spent billions trying to build infrastructure to pump ground water for consumption wich pretty much has failed to provide enough water. Last week the Russians reopened the canal with a bomb to the dam. Problem fixed, Canal again full of water

As I understand the situation, those doing the dieing think they’re protecting their Country. Well, maybe to some degree. But who they’re really protecting are the WEF cabal moguls who have been in bed with the Bidens; Hunter, wasted somewhere on cocaine, and the Big Guy in DC or in the basement in Delaware.

Yes. However. That doesn’t make the statement false.

Ukraine can’t win. Longer it goes on more citizens die.

It’s that simple.

The Ukraine and Russia are both corrupt countries and there’s zero reason for the USA to get involved in this mess. When the establishment is 100% behind the Ukraine it should be a signal to question the narrative.

I don’t like Russia and Ukraine, and the USA/NATO getting involved only increases the chances of this conflict turning nuclear. I don’t care if the Biden family has had a revenue stream turned off with the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

There’s zero reason right now to think Putin is trying to takeover Europe. If Russia’s ambitions go beyond the scope of the Ukraine then the US/NATO will need to get involved.

I agree with the Colonel.

Shocked to see so many brainwashed here on FR. You would think conservatives really are the stereotypical war mongers the left used to accuse them of.

Was Trump the only anti war republican since Calvin Coolidge?

I’m a millennial that identifies as a conservative and typically votes GOP. I’m hoping the difference between me and my generation of conservatives and the idiots who are calling for blood in the streets sponsored by military industrial complex is generational. If so then these misguided idiots will soon be expired and more sane people can take over.

what i see is the Ukrainian version of the war of 1812.

Exactly how I see it as well. All of this "it is really part of Russia historically and so Russia has the right to reconquer it" would be just as applicable to the British trying to retake "the colonies" in 1812. Self-determination matters, and the Ukrainians have been an independent nation for 20 years.

Russian artillery bombing Kyiv is pretty much the game-ender for me on who is the good guy v. bad guy in Ukraine. No matter how shitty or corrupt that government may be, the Ukrainian people themselves very clearly prefer it to being ruled by Putin.

It’s already been revealed thanks to a map in the background of a Putin ally that Putin will not stop at Ukraine. What I’d like to see is a multi-prong strategy that would make it impossible or unacceptably expensive to take those other countries. For example, Finland’s strategy is to load up on hardware that “leverages” (hate that word) their unique topography to make an invasion too expensive to pull off. Their ships are very small and, for their size, very heavily armed. They’re made to hide in and around the thousands of islands so they can dart out, fire a few missiles and then dart back under cover. Their entire military is “tuned” to heavy armament but relatively short ranged as they don’t intend to go on the offensive in someone else’s territory. In any platform you have a combination of attributes, range, firepower, maneuverability, stealth, etc. They have sacrificed range for other attributes. As a result, any invader would pay dearly for every foot. (American built hardware is a huge compromise as it has to do everything, everywhere in the world, so it is sometimes unsuited to particular climes.)

Unfortunately, the former Soviet countries are like parking lots. Hardly any have any terrain higher than a Texas on-ramp. So, other strategies would be required.

Rather than the US getting involved directly, I’d prefer to back the neighboring countries and let them assist Ukraine. The people of Latvia, for example, are terrified of being under Russian rule. Let them and the other neighbors take the fight into their hands. A direct fight against Russia is too high a stakes game given who we have holding our cards.

Agreed. War fever is being spread by politicians and media alike.

I can’t believe conservative politicians want to go to war with that senile old man as the leader.

Is everyone bought off?

Don’t they care about our troops?
