Vladimir Putin says Western sanctions on Russia are almost a declaration of WAR and anyone imposing no-fly zone on Ukraine would be considered to have entered the conflict

Vladimir Putin said today that Western sanctions on Russia are almost a declaration of war and that anyone imposing a no-fly zone on Ukraine would be considered to have entered the conflict.

He reiterated that his aims are to defend Russian speaking communities through the 'demilitarisation and de-Nazification' of the country so that it became neutral.

Ukraine and Western countries have dismissed this as a baseless pretext for the invasion he launched on February 24 and have imposed a sweeping range of sanctions aimed at isolating Moscow.

Because nothing says “we love our Ukrainian brothers and sisters” quite like dropping bombs and firing artillery on their cities.

This is one angle putin didnt count on. Financial pressure is real. Also the free flow of information will hurt the russians if you can filter out the propaganda.

Yes.

Remember the sanctions on Japan led to the attack on Peral Harbor.

Plan accordingly.

Did Putin say “almost” a Declaration of War? Need to see the precise translation.

Vladimir Putin said today that Western sanctions on Russia are almost a declaration of war...

"Almost"?

They aren't a declaration of war. Period.

I had expected massive cyberattacks taking out our power grid, Spetznas performing sabotage operations, etc., the moment we declared sanctions.

And yet... still nothing.

Perhaps they’ll pull something out yet, but so far, I am losing my belief that the Russians have anything going for them except their nukes, which they so far keep talking about but always falling short of calling Western arming of Ukrainians and sanctions worthy of a nuke strike.

Western sanctions are no where near a declaration of war, but “No-Fly Zones” in Ukraine should not be NATO or US led.

Let the UN or EU do it.

He knows EU/NATO is cuckolded on no-fly, won’t risk wider war in their own backyard and UN is completely impotent.

General Breedlove (Retired) says it is an “act of war”, but he thinks NATO should do it anyway.

He is not advocating a full no-fly zone covering the whole of Ukraine though.

He said in https://cepa.org/six-ways-to-help-ukraine-survive-right-now/

>As a humanitarian action, put in place a no-fly zone for protection of the civilian population against Russian aerial bombardment. The exclusion zone should cover Kyiv and western Ukraine — but not extend further east to avoid coming close to Russian borders. The no-fly zone would require clear communication to make clear it serves humanitarian purposes only, and that no US or NATO aircraft or drones would engage in any hostilities against Russian ground forces, except in self-defense if fired upon. Neither would they engage any Russian aircraft provided those aircraft remain outside the declared exclusion zone. Russian air force leaders will understand the lines.

Barry McCaffrey said that a no-fly zone would require hitting Russian S-400s on Russian soil and that is too big risk.

Maybe that’s why Breedlove’s proposal only says “the exclusion zone should cover Kyiv and western Ukraine — but not extend further east to avoid coming close to Russian borders”.

“I had expected massive cyberattacks taking out our power grid, Spetznas performing sabotage operations, etc., the moment we declared sanctions.”

If we had a functioning FBI they’d have already rounded them up. Too bad they’re too busy going after grandmothers who took a picture of the Capitol.

“but so far, I am losing my belief that the Russians have anything going for them except their nukes..”

The entire Russian society has been built on lies for nearly a century. Everyone lies to everyone else and that includes Russian Generals talking about capabilities and readiness.

Personally I think any Russian saboteurs or sleeper cells took a look around them and said “Yea, I want to live like this.” They’ve been lying to their handlers and if and when the call goes out for them to start wrecking things it’ll go straight to voicemail.

Yea, I want to live like this.

Kin and folk are large motivators, big picture.

Access to Home Depot and Jamba Juice, motivating for the short term, maybe.

He’s all bluster at this point. Even if he takes all of Ukraine he can never keep it.

He’ll face a revolution at home.
