Small Eastern European countries have a choice:

1. Stay out of NATO, be invaded by Russia.

2. Join NATO, be invaded by Third World migrants and Drag Queen Story Hour.

Then pick up a gun and go fight for Ukraine. Meanwhile our southern border has disappeared and every swinging dick in Creation is walking on in here.

But keep beating that war drum Mr. War Hawk.

My FRiend I’m paying $3.45 a gallon for gas here in NJ. And there’s an oil refinery an hour north of me. Last year at this time it was $1.50. As far as I’m concerned we’re in a recession.

I lived through the ‘70’s as a young adult.

I don’t want to relive those days again but it appears to be happening.

That's the big question. That's an ‘’unfunded liability'' like a lot of state pension plans that have been raided or borrowed against for short term spending goals. Yeah, you're right. There is going to be Hell to pay at some point.

“Anyone can see the war crimes being committed in real time.”

I said this on another thread. Someone, the EU, the US State Department, someone should announce loudly and publicly that the Russian commanders who gave the orders to fire will be brought up on war crimes charges at The Hague.

That “I was only following orders” crap got settled at Nuremberg.

IMVHO, the biggest reason I see to avoid engagement is that we do not have serious people in charge. We cannot ask lives to be risked with leaders like this. Case in point:

I thought of that, but decided to not confuse the post. Instead of throwing machine guns to untrained civilians, I was preferring the Swiss model of training and service.

I don’t really know what Switzerland’s history is of arms dealing, but I assume that they would not trade on the European continent where they have declared neutrality since 1815. That all ended with Ukraine, and my first thought was “Davos!”

Or the Gucci luggage being stuffed with U.S. aid dollars on its way to the getaway helicopter. Does Burisma run a travel agency?

we cannot get involved. The only thing we should be doing is removing all domestic energy restrictions imposed by Brandon.

I am a fan of staying the heck out of a regional conflict between 2 countries.
***Then we should never have guaranteed Ukrainian sovereignty in the Budapest Memorandum. If the Ukes had kept their Nukes, they wouldn’t be in this spot they’re in right now.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances

The Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances comprises three identical political agreements signed at the OSCE conference in Budapest, Hungary on 5 December 1994 to provide security assurances by its signatories relating to the accession of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The memorandum was originally signed by three nuclear powers: the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States. China and France gave somewhat weaker individual assurances in separate documents.[1]

The memorandum included security assurances against threats or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. As a result of other agreements and the memorandum, between 1993 and 1996, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons.[2]

Then we should never have guaranteed Ukrainian sovereignty in the Budapest Memorandum.

Was this ever ratified by the Senate? If not, it's worthless.

Ukraine should have emulated Switzerland. Instead it’s a used car dealership.
***They emulated South Africa and gave up their nukes for “assurances”.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances

So now there are 2 countries in the world which gave up their nukes and lost their sovereignty.

This isn’t our fight,
***Then why did we sign up to say that it IS our fight?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances

We should be giving back the Ukes their Nukes.

They’re not the only ones to find disappointment at the (nonbinding) promises of a Dem politician (Clinton in the 1994 case). How come all the neocons in congress back then didn’t propose a treaty if it was such a great idea?

Ukraine spent their money buying U.S. politicians. They should have bought lessons from a Constitutional scholar instead.
