S&P drags Russia's rating deeper into junk territory

(Reuters) - Ratings agency S&P Global on Thursday cut Russia's credit rating deeper into junk territory as fresh international sanctions triggered by its invasion of Ukraine, and the nation's own protective measures, ramped up default risk.

S&P downgraded the sovereign rating to "CCC-minus" from "BB-plus" less than a week after dropping it from investment grade.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the biggest attack on a European state since World War Two, has thrown its financial markets into turmoil after several countries imposed sanctions and global brands exited the nation in droves.

"The downgrade follows the imposition of measures that we believe will likely substantially increase the risk of default," the agency said.

New restrictions from the G7 countries and capital controls introduced by the Russian government to protect the rouble could constrain the nation's ability to pay its debt, S&P said.

The ratings agency also warned of further downgrades as it kept the sovereign on negative watch.

Seems appropriate for a 3rd world nation with nukes that invades it’s neighbors.

Has the S & P ratings agency been politicized yet?
Almost every other agency has.
Are they still above reproach?

15 years ago, I would never have expected the IRS, FBI, CIA, EPA, AMA or the NEA to be clearly and blatantly biased in their perspectives.

Russia lost everything they are crying about in 1999, when they could no longer roll over their paper and IMF bailed russia out to save the russian people a lot of pain.

First day in office Putin had already lost. Someone has to break it to him, he is 22 years behind and he cannot make it up in the next 3. He is seventy this year, world domination is a 45-55 year old mans game, someone in his inner circle hates him, please stand up.

Zelensky was elected in Ukraine by a landslide and has the support of 90% of the country.

Meanwhile, Iran, China, Venezuela, Cuba, Syria and Myanmar support the mongoloid KGB thug sending his hordes in to annex Ukraine.
