Gaddafi was a nasty mofu. But no more so than countless other nasty dictators round the globe. Many of which are or have been snuggled up to by Uncle Sam at one time or another. Regardless. The war was still illegal. Like I said, if a country like the U.S can go to war against another on whatever their chosen pretext is, than I guess it’s open slather in international relations. A free for all

We wouldn’t care if Gaddafi had killed hundreds of Chadians or hundreds of Egyptians. Not our problem. His mistake was in killing *Americans*. We were updating the cost-benefit calculations of bad guys around the world. Target significant numbers of Americans, and spend the rest of your life worrying about that bolt from the blue. It might never come - but you never know.

That’s the way it is in the real world. It’s a world of tactical alliances. Stalin allied with Hitler. When Hitler attack Stalin, we allied with Stalin anyway. Was it a mistake? It was *necessary* because the alternatives were worse. That’s the way life often is - choices range from bad to worse. That’s why we were *allies*, not friends. Rome had plenty of allies it later warred on and conquered.
