This must have happened somewhere in the southeastern part of Ukraine
Sukhovestsky was commanding general of the 7th Guards Air Assault Division, based out of Novorossysk in southern Russia, part of the 41st Combined Arms Army.
Novorossysk is across the Kerch bridge from Crimea
I now take that back. It appears the 41st Combined Arms Army was oerating near Chernihiv.
Also, it was reported that Russia had sent airborne troops in against the city of Kharkiv.
Perhaps the dead Russian general was shot by the defenders of Kharkiv, or at least somewhere in that theater.
