POW’s are a drain on resources and sometimes can’t be humanely taken care of, especially for a country that may be losing a war. The Russians understand that as well as anyone. That being said, it’s nothing to be proud of.

They are most definitely on the level with Russian soldiers

No comparison. One is a Russian criminal thats invading, the other is a Ukrainian protecting his home and family.

Being of Ukrainian and Russian descent, I really don’t know what to think. I hate to see the slaughter of both my countrymen. War is hell.

In order to avoid war, war needs to be unimaginably horrific and brutal. It needs to be feared and avoided like it was for a generation after WWII. This childish banter and critical tactics about which weapons are allowed and tactics (bombing civilians) are “illegal” has always troubled me.

I’m not pro-war by any means. I’m not a war monger. But technology has so sterilized war that it is become a political tool more than a last resort. Rules of engagement, selective and strategic targeting, concern over collateral damage and all the “expectations” of a gentle and more civil WAR makes war less effective when it truly and absolutely is necessary.

I abhor the idea of indiscriminate killing of civilians and populations and torture etc. But the wringing of hands because Russia is not following the “rules of war” or that Ukrainian soldiers are announcing that they “won’t take prisoners” is petty, in my opinion. I expect Russia will not be abiding by any rules of war in the coming days and weeks. In fact, best I can tell, only the “civilized” Western world and NATO is concerned with the “rules” and only because the opinion of the press and their people matters.

Ukrainian civilians are taking up arms to fight for their freedom. That is noble and inspiring. But it also forces a strategic adjustment for Russia that America has been hesitant to make in the past 20 years.

I have never thought Ukraine to be much more than another corrupt socialist mediocre player in the world. But, their leader and their people have moved the needle in the face of certain obliteration over the past few weeks. We have not seen this level of resolve on the world stage from a people under fire in a while (unless you count Iraqis and Afganis taking up arms as insurgents against the US in the ME).

The artillerymen are committing war crimes. They should not expect any mercy.

> POW’s are a drain on resources and sometimes can’t be humanely taken care of... <

A friend of my father’s was a US Army veteran of the Italian campaign in WW 2. By early 1945 the Allies had broken the stalemate, and were moving fast northward.

This guy said his unit shot any German prisoners they took. They could not spare the men needed to escort the POWs to the rear - less men would have put his own and neighboring units in too much danger.

I was just a kid when I overheard that guy tell my dad that story. You can bet it shook me up.

Billy Sherman was, of course, right. War is hell - a fact that most politicians casually ignore.

Agreed, but torture and slaughter is too muslim(SPIT!). Now, if the Soviets are doing it to the Ukranian civilians, then that’s a different matter.

What a difference now under the Biden’s connections to the corrupt Ukrainian government. Back in 2014 the Ukrainians were begging Russia to come in and invade. There seems to be quite a large amount of protection for the present corrupt Ukranian government under this administration.

2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine
From the end of February 2014, demonstrations by pro-Russian and anti-government groups took place in major cities across the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine, in the aftermath of the Euromaidan movement and the 2014 Ukrainian revolution. During the first stage of the unrest, known as the “Russian Spring”, the Ukrainian territory of Crimea was annexed by the Russian Federation after a Russian military intervention, and an internationally criticized Crimean referendum. Protests in Donetsk and Luhansk regions escalated into an armed pro-Russian separatist insurgency, including a co-ordinated political and military campaign against Ukraine by the Russian Federation. From late 2014, cities outside of the Donbas combat zone, such as Kharkiv, Odessa, Kyiv and Mariupol, were struck by bombings that targeted pro-Ukrainian unity organizations.Wikipedia
Date:
20 February – 2 May 2014
Location:
Eastern Ukraine, Southern Ukraine, Crimea
Causes:
Opposition to the Euromaidan, 2014 revolution, and the composition of the new government
Goals:
Union with Russia, Federalization, Referendums on status for Eastern Ukraine and Southern Ukraine, Establishing Russian as a second official language in Ukraine, Creation of the Donbass Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk
Methods:
Protests, Riots, Armed insurgency, Occupation of administrative buildings, Covert operations by the Russian Federation
Result:
Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, 48 people killed during clashes in Odessa, escalating the conflict in the region into a war

"The artillerymen are committing war crimes. They should not expect any mercy.

First, we have no real proof that their stories about the Russian artillery are true. Second, it's war.

Were the Allies committing war crimes when they fire bombed Dresden? How about the nukes we dropped on Hiroshima, Nagasaki?

Again, it's war. If the Ukrainians decide they are going to kill every Russian soldier they capture, it is their decision to make, in what they regard as the defense of their homeland.

It's war. At some point, there will be no rules, which is why it is a thing to use only when all other options have been exhausted, and this conflict is being fabricated and exploited on both sides of the battle lines.

America has no interest in this conflict.

To: I want the USA back

I have worked in manufacturing all of my career. Dealt with people from every inhabited continent, and many countries.

Seen wonderful, hard working people from all over. But all people have the darkness in them.

We are going to witness on Instagram, Twitter, FB and other media sites stories of human kindness in this war, and pictures of brutal savagery most have only seen in the horror films.

There are no “good” guys in this conflict. There are no angels. But I fear we will see a lot of innocents suffer, and a lot of monsters.

But think on this. They banned Trump for all social media. They kept this being played. The narrative is being set. The question is why.

I feel the anger you feel but the Ukrainians need God on their side and not human desire for revenge. In fact, God is their only hope. He promises retribution.
