These people have got to stop with the “Putin is crazy” talk.
His choices may be ill-advised, and even dangerous, but Putin is not crazy as in mentally ill/deranged like Biden clearly is.
He’s making his choices, and is prepared to accept the consequences (good or bad) of his choices.
If you put yourself in his position, and contemplate what you would do if presented with the same options, do his choices make sense for Russia as Putin sees it? I’m not advocating that Putin is some wonderful guy who’s misunderstood. However, one has to consider the other guy’s position, his options, upsides and downsides, and estimates on the outcome.
Putin determined that the time was ripe for taking Ukraine, and proceeded accordingly. Whether it works out the way he anticipated is still undecided. His cost benefit analysis at the time, told him that he should proceed. I’m sure that sanctions and all the other tripe was factored in, and he still reached the conclusion that invading was the correct course of action for Russia.
Democrats would love to apply the same tactics to “greedy billionaires”.
That is exactly why billionaires diversify their assets in many ways, by asset class and by location.
They use shell corporations (profit and non profit), insurance arrangements and other techniques to hide their assets from governments, competitors and any other prying eyes.
They didn’t get to be billionaires by being stupid—they learned quickly to trust no one.
Or as Michael Corleone said to his nephew Vincent in Godfather 3, "I don't need tough guys, I need more lawyers."
