“I’m not understanding how this isn’t self defense.”
As Blennos said, this happened in Glendale Heights, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.
I don’t even drive through Illinois because I carry.
Looks like Madison had anger and control issues. I based it on the fact that he stopped what he was doing and chased down the guy that ended up shooting him.
I’ve watched crash videos for years. But I’ve noticed a shift in their content the last couple of years. That is, more and more, I noticed the person with a camera is recording that they got cut off in traffic or something like that.
I made the comment on one of the videos that I think they need to rename those videos. Instead of calling them crash videos, they should call them “Karen’s with dash cams.”
after watching the video... that doesn’t really look like him hitting the guy in the car, more like him reaching in? he might have been trying to grab the gun which had already been pulled on him.
First Degree Murder?
The only charge should be unlawful possession of a handgun. Because Mejia is under 21 and without a conceal carry license, he shouldn’t have had the gun.
But, since Mattison is the aggressor and clearly reaches into Mejia’s car and commits an assault/battery, then there is no way this is first degree murder.
The incident doesn’t even rate a charge involuntary manslaghter . . .
Well we already know that shooting a guy who has hit you in the face is murder because that's what they decided when that piece of sh*t Ahmed Arbery punched that guy in the face and tried to take his gun.
That was my thinking as well. Looking at his picture, he looks like someone who thinks he's tough and can push people around.
Still, I think the kid should have showed him the handgun as he walked up and that might have saved everyone some grief.
I'd convict on manslaughter, but not first degree.
People backing in to parking spots... take up two lanes of traffic while you maneuver...
In Texas, If the kid couldn’t retreat, ie. was trapped in traffic, then he had the right to use deadly force. The assailant was a deadly threat. Period!
I recall Miss W, in 10th grade journalism class, teaching us on the first day of school that the first sentence lays the pretext for the entire article.
"Dave Smith is charged with murder for allegedly (always say allegedly, too) shooting Mike Jones, who allegedly assaulted him through his car window.
Blah blah blah for the details.
Teen, 18, is charged with first-degree murder for shooting dead father-of-two who walked over to his car and hit him in face through his window during road rage attackWorse, I think our jorno grad geniuses are telling us that the father-of-two walked up to his own car and hit himself in the face.
... the quarrel between both men started when Mattison, of Glendale Heights, was trying to back his pickup truck into his driveway. Mejia pulled up in a white Ford sedan and went around Mattison instead of letting him finish pulling in, the prosecutor added. This happens to me about 3 times a month at my house. It gets fun when the impatient ahole nearly runs into the car parked across the street while swerving when my truck suddenly stops (for some reason). But I never thought about chasing him down and punching him in the face. Interesting.
While I don’t doubt he “struck” him in the face, but after watching the video, its pretty clear that was at most a little slap...
Shouldn’t have done it, but hard to make an argument for lethal response.
If this guy was so much in fear for his life from that, he’s a coward. Just like that idiot who murdered that man in FL over an argument regarding where the car was parked in that convenience store.
This guys very likely going to jail, and rightfully so.
Watch the video, not defending the man who got shot, but he didn’t “punch” anyone... no doubt he did strike him, but hardly was it a “punch”.
Certainly nothing in that video justifies a lethal response, if this guy was fearing for his life over this, he’s a coward.
Huh? Even "brake off" doesn't really make sense.
Only because of where it happened. Deep Blue State.
Only because of where it happened. Deep Blue State.
In a sane world this would be self-defense, but we no longer live in a sane world.
“Karen’s with dash cams.”
That’s funny...and exactly right. I’ve learned a lot of lessons watching crash videos....and found myself trying to guess where the “instigator” would come from in those videos. LOL...I’ve also learned some Russian profanity (those were the first crash videos I started watching).
