Rightwingers tend to look at lefty cities and areas as pure garbage worth nothing, but San Francisco and vast swaths of California are, by orders of magnitude, better land masses than much of the rest of America. There just aren't that many places in the world with a Mediterranean climate, and a Mediterranean climate is one of the most comfortable climates for humanity to live in.

Eventually, if the official system of law and order doesn't create an environment for safe tourism and wealthy leisure, criminals will. Expect local mafia types to start running the town. Maybe it will be biker gangs, maybe urban gangs, maybe a sort of loose coalition of ethnic neighborhoods, each run by their own gangs, Warriors style. Whatever it is, order will come, if not by the law of man, then by the law of the jungle.

The CCP hierarchy are already picking out their estates. Curiously, they are the exact same estates American liberals thought they would be getting as a reward for their loyalty to the cause. Funny how that works... :)

I thought for sure when I left my job in downtown San Francisco in 2008 that I would be back fairly often, for business reasons if nothing else. But I haven't set foot in the place in almost thirteen years, and have no plans to ever go there again.
