China Asked Russia to Delay Ukraine War Until After Olympics, U.S. Officials Say

A Western intelligence report indicates that Chinese officials had some level of knowledge about President Vladimir V. Putin’s war plans or intentions.

A Western intelligence report said senior Chinese officials told senior Russian officials in early February not to invade Ukraine before the end of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, according to senior Biden administration officials and a European official.

The report indicates that senior Chinese officials had some level of knowledge about Russia’s war plans or intentions before the invasion started last week. President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia met with President Xi Jinping of China in Beijing on Feb. 4 before the opening ceremony of the Olympics. Moscow and Beijing issued a 5,000-word statement at the time declaring that their partnership had “no limits,” denouncing NATO enlargement and asserting that they would establish a new global order with true “democracy.”

The intelligence on the exchange between the Chinese and Russian officials was classified. It was collected by a Western intelligence service and considered credible by officials reviewing it. Senior officials in the United States and allied governments passed it around as they discussed when Mr. Putin might attack Ukraine.

However, different intelligence services had varying interpretations, and it is not clear how widely the information was shared.

One official familiar with the intelligence said the material did not necessarily indicate the conversations about an invasion took place at the level of Mr. Xi and Mr. Putin. Other officials briefed on the intelligence declined to give further details. The officials spoke about the report on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the intelligence.

You wonder if Vlad asked Xi to wait to move on Taiwan until after Ukraine?

China was in on it.

Sanctions inbound on China before Saint Patrick’s Day is my expectation.

I would still put more money on China invading Siberia than I would China invading Taiwan.

China can just basically buy out Taiwan without firing a shot.

Just like China told WHO and the world to hold off announcing COVID-19 until well after the Military World Games held in Wuhan in October 2019. Bastards.

“China can just basically buy out Taiwan without firing a shot.”

China’s bungling of Hong Kong has effectively ended any chance of peaceful reunification with Taiwan. There will be no buying out Taiwan because the greedy criminals in Taiwan who would be for sale are shrewd enough not to trust China to kill them after China takes control.

Hmm, sounds like our elites are about to add China to the axis of evil unless they get in line with the sanctions. This should get interesting.

Never going to happen.

The world does not have the manufacturing capabilities to stop from importing all of the Chinese goods.

if the world stops Chinese imports on a large scale, I think China take the military solution.

Possibly after calling in EVERBODY’s debts/ loans.

And nationalizing all of the foreign owned/ funded facilities.

If the economy stinks now, figure 4x that without China’s goods.

I can’t blame China for not wanting a war to start during their Olympics.

Now is not a good time to buy Walmart stock. Value could reach zero if the sale of Chinese products are banned.

I know you think China won’t invade Taiwan but they have been salivating at the chance for seven decades—that tries even Chinese patience....

and they will never have a better opportunity than right now...

Sun Tzu says: “Attack when your enemy is weak.” This is the weakest the US has been in seventy years, and there is no guarantee that we will not turn it around in a post-Biden era.

As they say: “Why take the chance?”

Cost benefit is the crux of the Taiwan issue for China.

Taiwan is the CCP ‘boogeyman’ that the CCP likes to blame for all sorts of problems in China. If China conquers Taiwan then this handy scapegoat disappears.

The other thing is that Russia and China did not expect that the West would come together against Russia if Russia seized the rest of Ukraine. Now the West has isolated Russia and the next step will be to isolate Russia’s partner China.

Can China afford to have Russia as their only customer? I don’t think so. Maybe the CCP is too stupid to understand that common people won’t buy Chinese goods if they don’t want to but that’s what can happen. Like we saw with the sanctions on Russia a consumer boycott preceded government action.

The same dynamic can easily isolate and cripple China.

Of course, they’ve teamed up against the US. Russia is merely testing the waters in the Ukraine until time for the team to hit the US.
