Lithuania has finalised building a physical barrier (mostly a 4 m tall steel fence+concertina) on the entire length of border with Belarus (except where natural barriers such as rivers occur). It covered approximately 550km and cost €152mil.
The project took around a year to complete.
It aims to stop flows of illegal migration that persist to this day from the Belarusian side. For instance, 125 people were turned back on Saturday alone.
According to 🇱🇹 officials, in some cases the migrants are being aided by the Belarusian officers. For instance, people in masks help by cutting through the fence. That is why EU calls it a hybrid attack that intensified back in 2021.

The Russians have lost their supply lines...
DW News: Ukraine’s counteroffensive: A turning point in the war?
Ukraine’s southern military command said Monday that Kyiv had kicked off its much-anticipated counter-offensive to take back the city of Kherson, which Russia took in the early days following the February 24 invasion. Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspline said southern command spokesperson Natalia Humeniuk told them that “offensive actions in various directions” had begun, “including in the Kherson region.” After successfully repelling much of Russia’s initial invasion in all but the south and east of the country, Ukraine is now trying to regain territorial losses in the southeast to pincer Russian troops in the east. Recent strategic strikes carried out by Ukrainian on Russian positions, arsenals and the routes of supply lines, such as strategically located bridges, in recent weeks have prepared the ground for the current operation. Humeniuk however would offer no operational details beyond confirming the offensive has begun.
The International Atomic Energy Agency is sending a mission to visit the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine this week, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said on Monday. The facility, Europe’s biggest nuclear plant, is currently occupied by the Russian military and has been the target of strikes in recent weeks. Both Moscow and Kyiv have routinely traded blame for shelling around the complex.

That photograph is so reminiscent of World War II fighting over the same terrain. But this one is in color and again the background represents the Ukrainian flag.
One of the candidates for picture of the month.
Day 188 of my 3 day war. It’s going so well Defense Minister Shoigu is sacked and Gerasimov hasn’t been seen in weeks.
I remain a master strategist.

If we had a real president that knew how to get things done, then the Ukrainians would be attacking with much better equipment than they are currently using. Sure, the precision rockets are great, but I hate the fact that the typical Ukrainian tank is a T72 or other obsolete models. Some old models are enhanced with thermal sights which is a big plus. The armor is still much more vulnerable than on an Abrams, Challenger, etc.
Reminds me of this scene from Bronx Tale...just substitute Azov nazis for the bikers.
On this day (31AUG) in 1939, the Reichstag and the USSR Supreme Council ratified the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact.
Molotov said: “Only instigators of pan-European war can be dissatisfied with this situation”.
Nazi Germany invaded Poland the next day. The Soviets joined them two weeks later
