Yeah, because thanks to Victorian talking points Europe was civilized and awesome, and Asia was backwoods and crap. So of course Peter wanted to be civilized and awesome, even though probably not really. And honestly, neither was Europe really either. But they put the time into declaring the narrative.

Well there is no debating the fact that the Industrial Revolution happened in Europe and that they were able to project their civilization further than any other.

Also Peter lived well before the Victorian Era. :)

Yeah, but they’re the ones that formalized British snootiness. Cause they had the printing presses and turned it into mass produced books and maps and everything else. All with the English names for everything, cause those native names just wouldn’t do.

Well English spelling was only standardized in the late 18th century. The Samuel Johnson dictionary was a big spur.

You’re side stepping. You know full well the maps that got printed and distributed all over the English speaking world are why all these cities have “English” names. And that all happened by pure snootiness from an English people that just plain couldn’t be bothered to learn the names. There is no reason outside pure British ego.

That’s common. The Romans gave everything Latin names.
