Greenwald: Remember Iraq? We're Not Immune To Being Deceived Or Doing Something We Regret

GLENN GREENWALD: I think we ought to remember in the past the times that we have endured war and the propaganda that goes with it. Even if we had more or less apprehended the correct moral framework, say after 9/11, when we all acknowledged that the 9/11 attack was a moral atrocity, or understood that Saddam Hussein was a despotic and barbaric dictator. It necessarily didn't mean we were immune to being deceived and led to believe false things, or affirmed responses we ended up regretting. That is because in these situations propaganda, which every side uses in wars, is very powerful. It's important at the very least to be mindful of that and be very cautious and skeptical about what we choose to believe, especially if what we are being told validates our pre-existing views of the world.

Well, at least it was just 2 weeks to flatten the curve; so there’s great comfort right there.

So many lemmings on FR are for leaping into another wag-the-dog wore like idiots. They just spent five months trashing Biden’s Afghanistan disaster and now these clowns want to trust in Biden and the leftist buttlickes of the Pentagon?

We sure do live in interesting times.
I’m sorry to say.
I certainly don’t trust any TV “news” to give the complete, actual story anymore. Not for a long time.
I noticed Brian Williams was goofy, moreso than I had realized, starting about 2008 or so. Same with Tim Russert.

World War IV will provide a nice distraction from Hillary’s shenanigans.
Forget that the REAL hackers were bought and paid for by the Clinton campaign.
Most of America probably can’t figure that out, either.

I stole this from another Freeper.
Hunter Biden, Soros, Sean Penn, Graham, Nuland, McCain, Romney, Hillary, Liz Cheney, Kinzinger, the LGBT crowd, Brussels, Boris Johnson, Trudeau, Macron... all are good buddies of Ukraine.

who would believe FakeNewsMSM’s covid coverage would look fair and balanced compared to what we have now on Russia/Ukraine?
worse still is watching so many people being taken in by the propaganda.
at least Buchanan thinks for himself:
24 Feb: Patrick J. Buchanan: Did We Provoke Putin’s War in Ukraine?
Whatever we may think of Putin, he is no Stalin. He has not murdered millions or created a gulag archipelago. Nor is he “irrational,” as some pundits rail. He does not want a war with us, which would be worse than ruinous to us both. Putin is a Russian nationalist, patriot, traditionalist and a cold and ruthless realist looking out to preserve Russia as the great and respected power it once was and he believes it can be again...

The agenda propaganda is never ending in the modern age. 🤪
They just shift focus and direct attention where needed - like now.

CNN ‘War Correspondent’ Clarissa Ward accidentally explained why the public is confused about what the corporate media are saying about the Ukraine war with Russia, compared to what is actually visible about the Ukraine war with Russia.
During a segment with Brian Stelter, Ms Ward explained how CNN war corresponding in Ukraine consists of talking about material provided to her by CNN production crews who sit and scour through YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and social media posts to find the input material for their stories.

Clarissa Ward didn’t mean to expose how the propaganda of modern warfare is created, but she did.
Ward was thanking the people in the background of CNN who search social media for their Ukraine content; however, in talking about what they do, she affirmed what we already knew was taking place.
People wondering why there is no visible ‘fight’ in this war, now find the baseline which Deputy National Security Advisor Daleep Singh was talking about last week. The State Department, intelligence community and political participants in the U.S. government are constructing the “war” against Vladimir Putin through the prism of social likeability as a cultural weapon.
When the goal is to produce content that tells the “better story,” social media becomes the battlefield. War corresponding is reduced to using the corporate media platform to enhance the social media battlefield. Essentially you might call this “World War Reddit.”
The CNN war correspondent doesn’t even need to be in Ukraine, except for the fact they need some form of geographical context to create the credibility. The actual content of Ukraine material for the broadcast can just as easily be assembled in New York, California or mom’s basement in Illinois.
The social media content extracted by CNN workers, stationed anywhere, is then transmitted to the network producers who assemble the material, and a “war correspondent’ puts on a helmet and appears live on camera in Ukraine to discuss it.
This is modern journalism, aka propaganda creation, aka narrative engineering, and why there’s a lack of actual evidence for anything being attributed to the narrative surrounding the war between Ukraine and Russia.

Remember the false attack on the USS Maddox by North Viet-Nam, totally a lie by the Deep State to start a war where we spent 55,000 lives and lots of our treasure.

We do live in interesting times.
Go back for 50-60 years, what has been sold to the American Public that turned out to be a lie.
Vietnam - the Gulf of Tonkin was sold to the US, turned out to be fake news.
9/11 was used to sell the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, most of the story was a big lie.
Corona Virus, nearly everything about Covid was a lie
Russia Gate, we’ve demonized nearly everything about Russia and anyone trying to deal with them, now we have a real war involving Russia while trying to impeach a POTUS, lead by a political party that not only lied but actually spied on a President.
2020 election, total blatant fraud was sold as the most secure election in history, not only by Democrats but many Republicans as well.
Biden’s mental decline, anyone can see the man needs to be admitted to a memory care unit, he’s gone, not someone who should be leading a country that is on the verge of a World War.
Just look at FR, we have a war of words on both sides of the Ukraine issue, people getting their loyalties questioned all based on what. Given how much propaganda has been used on so many issues can we believe anything that is being reported.

both sides agree talks have started:
28 Feb: Reuters: Talks between Ukraine and Russia have started, says Ukraine presidential advisor
LVIV (Reuters) - Talks between Ukraine and Russia have started at the Belarussian border, Ukrainian presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak told Reuters via text message on Monday.
Earlier the Ukrainian president’s office said Ukraine’s goal for the talks was an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine.

RT is reporting the same (have to watch it online as Murdoch dropped it from his Foxtel cable package in Australia).

While I thought Saddam was an evil dictator, I never believed he was involved in 9/11/2001. (just a comment; not in direct response to your statement).
Saddam was the kind of guy that would brag about it.
I always figured it was islamists like (turned out) OBL. As I watched the towers burning I said to a friend (RIP) on the phone, “It’s Muslims - I don’t have to wait to find out”.
It’s what their terrorists do.
Back then a lot of us thought W would always be on our side.
Sigh.
I’m having a hard time believing what I’m hearing and seeing. Which is why I avoid TV, regularly. I never thought it would happen here. The media certainly can’t be trusted. Maybe for the weather and not Global Warming, that is.

Hunter Biden, Soros, Sean Penn, Graham, Nuland, McCain, Romney, Hillary, Liz Cheney, Kinzinger, the LGBT crowd, Brussels, Boris Johnson, Trudeau, Macron... ...walk into a bar. Suddenly pootie and Zelensky walk in as well, pushing and shoving. Then a huge 60ft meteorite lands on top the bar leaving nothing but a crater. The world is suddenly a better place.
The End.
