Ukraine confirms rocket that struck airport was fired from Belarus – as Lukashenko warns war will become a ‘meat grinder’ with his special forces poised to join Kyiv assault

The Ukrainian state security service has officially reported that a rocket arrack on Zhytomyr Airport - located some 93 miles west of Kiev - was launched from the territory of Belarus.

Belarusian special forces were seen loading onto airplanes in preparation for an air assault on Kyiv in what could be a widening of the war, military sources stated.

Ukrainian intelligence has reportedly learned from within Belarus that ‘special ops’ troops have been spotted loading up planes for a major attack.

A widening of the conflict to potentially include Russian ally Belarus could signal Vladimir Putin’s growing fury and frustration as the Russian campaign appears to get bogged down in fierce fighting around Kyiv and Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second biggest city. It could also run the risk of sucking in other states including NATO allies, triggering a pan-European conflict.

In a bizarre rant on Sunday, Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko warned that the war in Ukraine will ‘become a meat grinder’.

Speaking at a polling station during a referendum on constitutional change that would give the despot further power, the Putin ally thundered: ‘The conflict in Ukraine is the thin edge of the wedge. Believe me, I know what I’m talking about. If it continues like this, the worst will happen.

‘He [Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky] will not be hidden in any American or some other bunker. That’s why the war should be ended today. I wouldn’t even call it the war. This is a conflict. The war will last for one-two days, but there will be a meat grinder in three days.’

Putin has been playing tiddlywinks. I hope he doesn’t get pushed into really fighting a full-on war.

It may be the best solution is to allow the Western part of Ukraine to break off and join NATO, and keep the bulk of the country neutral.

Putin has deligitimated Ukraine as a nation many times.

You need to catch up on your news. The meme in Ukraine right now is that NATO will join Ukraine. Ukraine is kicking Putinist invader butt just fine now. They’re fine with an unaligned status. The NATO stuff was always a red herring Putin used as a tool.

Putin has lost and Russia is literally the laughing stock of the world. Everyone was laughing in the bar here last night about the Ukrainian driver offering to tow the Russian tank.

Things change when you’re fighting on your home turf.

Novorossiya (Novorossiya Governate) was part of Russia beginning in 1764, with large parts being stuffed into the Ukraine by the of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union in 1954. This is why majority swaths of the the population in what was Novorossiya are Russian speaking and vote pro Russian.

I have a degree in history from a top ten US University, so I don’t really need to be told how to read. Your characterizations in your summary reports are way off. If you are referring to Russian characterizations of the Madian “revilution” (CIA/Noland coup), then you are a bit warmer.

I think Adam Schiff is next in the line of succession.

Maybe but I don’t think the Russians will go for that. The will want the NATO Article 5 tripwire to the west of the carnations, which makes their defensible border about half the length as with Ukraine in NATO.

All Biden had to say is Keystone and domestic drilling is resuming immediately. Would have ended this in 24 hours.

>>Russian men are many things we can criticize, but don’t call them wusses,<<

They are not wusses, but I doubt you could call them highly motivated.

The Ukrainians are defending their homes. The Russian enlisted, most probably just want to go home in one piece. That makes a difference.

Update (1404ET): The mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko has declared that the capital city is now fully surrounded and under siege, preventing the possibility of civilians being evacuated. Memes are not facts. Seems that you believe propaganda quite easily. All reading should be undertaken critically.

The Ukrainians are defending their homes.

Some are some are not. as I discussed above [Novorossiya (Novorossiya Governate) was part of Russia beginning in 1764, with large parts being stuffed into the Ukraine by the of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union in 1954. This is why majority swaths of the population in what was Novorossiya are Russian speaking and vote pro Russian.] What keeps western Ukraine separate culturally is that it was a part of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth while Novorossiya was not, western Ukrane predominantly speaks Ukranian and the Holomodor had great impacts in Ukranian speaking areas west of the Dneiper and around Kiev.
