Kharkiv governor: WE REPELLED INVASION
BBC ^ | Feb 27 | BBC NEWS

Ukrainian forces have regained control of the key city of Kharkiv, the regional governor has said.

In a post on Telegram, Oleh Synyehubov said: "Control over Kharkiv is completely ours!

"The armed forces, the police, and the defence forces are working, and the city is being completely cleansed of the enemy."

Russian troops were able to enter the city, Ukraine's second largest, overnight.

Footage circulated on social media showed street fighting between Ukrainian and Russian troops.

The situation on the ground remains fluid and claims of control are hard to verify - but civilians on the ground have also told the BBC that Kharkiv is back under Ukrainian control and that conflict on the streets is easing.

This war is not going well for Putin!

Could be all propaganda and I know we need to be cautious but it does not look like going well Freepers.

I think it's safe to say that now.

We'll see what happens soon...

This may prove to be the end for Putin and maybe even Russia. Getting your butt kicked by a neighboring country does not look well on your Resume.

Maybe china will step in now and take over Russia?

Yesterday it looked like they were bypassing Kharkiv. It’s not clear why they would take the city. Besides the losses in street fighting, it would take a lot of forces to police and administer the captured city. For now it is more efficient to lay siege.

Pooty-Poot isn't the only one this doesn't end well for. Biden greenlighted Russia's invasion the minute he said no US Troops would be involved, and then went on to completely fail to kick ALL Russian banks completely off of SWIFT.

This isn't just Putin's war. This is Putin & Biden's war. Biden completely enabled it.

“the city is being completely cleansed of the enemy”

That doesn’t sound like propaganda at all, nope.

The problem with laying siege is you have to completely encircle the city, tying up large forces. Otherwise small Ukrainian units could attack your vulnerable Russian supply convoys.

Kharkiv sits astride the major road and rail junctions in that part of Ukraine. You can go around it, but that restricts your routes and forces tactical units and logistics support elements to share the same lower grade roads. This slows down your rate of advance, and gives the Ukrainian forces precious time.

Plus with only about 150,000 troops committed across four geographically separate axes of advance, The Russians can’t spare the combat power, nor the time, to completely encircle the city.

Kharkiv, is, for the present, a significant impediment to Russian efforts. I suspect Mr. Putin’s timetable is askew.

The imperfect historical parrallel is German Ardennes Offensive (aka the Battle of the Bulge) in December 1944, they relied upon quickly seizing key towns and their road junctions for success. When they were delayed at St. Vith, and had to bypass Bastogne, their plan began to fall apart.

To: drop 50 and fire for effect

And the Germans who bypassed ran out of fuel because when the overly stretched supply lines got hit. Same thing happening.

This is apparently northwest of Kiev. Looks like the Russians got mauled.

Logistics, logistics, logistics.

That is what wins wars.

The unsung heroes of WW2 were the logistics people who kept the supplies flowing to our troops (and to the Russians as well).

It seems the Russians tried to do what we did in Baghdad in 2003. Send one column of armor into the city centre.

In 2003 that worked for us. The Iraqis didn’t want to fight and the city surrendered with barely a shot fired.

In Kharkiv the Ukrainians did fight and the Russia spearhead paid for Putin’s gamble with a lot of blood.

The Ukrainians are probably getting real time satellite info from us, making setting up these ambushes very easy.
