Battle for Kyiv: Hundreds of casualties as fighting spills into streets
The New York Post ^ | Feb 26,2022 | Patrick Reilly

The battle for Kyiv was underway — with explosions and gunfire reported in the Ukrainian capital — as Russian forces forged on with an aggressive overnight offensive Friday into Saturday...

Hundreds of casualties have already been reported in the wake of the assault. Russian shells demolished apartment buildings in Kyiv and schools and bridges were also destroyed... Artillery and gunshots echoed through the city’s streets Friday night and Saturday morning as Russian troops stormed from the south, east and north.

In the face of the violence, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declined an offer from the US to be evacuated from Kyiv, instead choosing to remain behind with his countrymen and fight.

“The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride,” Zelensky said, The Associated Press reported, citing a senior American intelligence official with direct knowledge of the conversation.

Late Friday, Zelensky addressed his countrymen in a video, telling them to brace for an overnight assault and urging unity and strength.

“The fate of Ukraine is being decided right now,” Zelensky said. “This night will be very difficult, and the enemy will use all available forces to break the resistance of Ukrainians.”

“We can’t lose the capital,” he added, emphatically.

Zelensky posted another video from Kyiv on Saturday morning, vowing to defend his country.

“There’s a lot of fake information online that I call on our army to lay down arms, and that there’s evacuation,” he said. “I’m here. We won’t lay down our arms. We will defend our state.”

The Ukrainian military put up a fierce defense against the invading forces overnight, slowing down Russia’s procession towards Kyiv, according to US defense officials...

Nice article. Yeah. Sure.

And WMD’s are in Iraq.

Obama said we’ve got to have NATO bomb Libya with the U.S. “leading from behind” over unproven allegations that Gaddafi was going to attack his own citizens.

Obama/Biden said the Arab Spring would be so wonderful.

The MSM attacked Trump for pulling troops out of Syria saying it was a bad idea.

That is a direct quote. I am totally impressed by the Ukrainian response. The prople sent 75 million Hrivna to the military for weapons and other support.

Lots of propaganda pieces out there now and likely will continue......both sides fighting the propaganda war. Unfortunately the West is slack at reporting what Russia’s saying.

I’ve seen this in all conflicts....US media takes a side and that’s what you’re going to see. Plus the media wants to keep people engaged so the revenue for ads flows strong.....it works.

Russia is now threatening Sweden and Finland of severe consequences if they join NATO.

The Finns are very good at biathlon. Russia military, by reports are disorganized and not executing their plan or adjusting. I don’t think Russia’s mech units will do well in Finland.

Putin seems to be attempting an encore of the Soviet meltdown. The occupation of Ukraine is not going to go well.

Sorry Ukraine. Chomo Joe doesn’t care. In fact. He supports Putin to destroy all evidence of his disgusting son’s corruption with the previous administration.

Poland and the Baltic states are also sending in equipment. ATGMs, MANPADS, small arms ammunition etc.

Russians lack the morale to defeat the Ukrainians who are fighting for their homes.

Expect the brutality to increase dramatically and swiftly.

It may devolve into a war of annihilation and WMDs may be used.

In that case there will be a revolution in Russia.

Is one man’s life worth more than 20 million?

Same was said about the US when we went to war throughout my lifetime.... It doesn’t change just because you support one side or the other....War kills and maims many people....and it’s destructive to any people regardless where it is or their reasons for fighting.

The dynamics of media, propaganda, protests are a re-run from the last war fought. War will always unhinge people and destabilize the world overall. Photos of destroyed buildings, military tanks, people taking cover....it’s all the same regardless of where it’s happening.

Just as war intensifies then we see the photos of crying children, dead bodies, bombs hitting in civilian areas......etc. etc. etc. he media changes with the pace of the war.

I detest any war for those reasons.

From what I can tell, it’s Ukrainians shooting at one another with the firearms their government doled out.

Did you support the US & NATO invasion of Serbia in 1999?

That war was in violation of international law, too.

Our justification was exactly the same justification that Putin gives for invading Ukraine.
