Here in Washington State, the Yakima Indian tribe was always spelled like that, with an “i” in the middle. But about three years ago, I suddenly noticed that news people were spelling it Yakama, replacing the “i” with an “a.” I assume it was some PC decision, to show how hip they are.
and if you don’t use the “correct” and current spelling, you’re a racist. ;-)
