My wife worked on a Dialysis floor. I can tell you why, LIFESTYLE. She literally had Black patients wanting to be diagnosed with Kidney failure to get on the government dole and live on Dialysis.
She knew people with failing kidneys actively living in a way to make it worse, intentionally!
And dialysis sucks! but they wanted the government had out more than dealing with the life on dialysis.
I would not have believed it myself if we had not experienced it day in and out for years before she left.
Doesn’t surprise me. When our first daughter was born, my wife was in a double room with a lady of color who had also just given birth. I was there when this happened- the nurse came in and told her she was being discharged tomorrow.
She replied “No I’m not, I’m staying another night.” Nurse went out. Nurse AND doctor came in together, and doctor told her “You are going home tomorrow”.
This was 38 years ago.
