Former Obama administration Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Thursday on MSNBC’s “MTP Daily” that Russian President Vladimir Putin “has taken off the gloves,” so America and NATO must do the same in response.
Anchor Chuck Todd said, “Let me start with what the mission is now. The mission 48 hours ago was to deter Putin. We have not deterred him from doing this. Now I assume the mission is to get him to retreat in some form or another. How do we do it?”

You are absolutely right!
This is an opportunity to grow fortunes and channel money to Dem causes, and Congress is breathlessly waiting to spend it.
You first Panetta.
I will never let my children go into this meat grinder.
They always were. It has always been about instituting "democracies" not republics like our government was intended to be. Democracies are easily corrupted and easily manipulated.
I have never once heard any American politician talk about helping any country become a constitutional republic.

Right? This is not Iraq or Libya we’re talking about. Russia has a very capable air force, ground forces and navy to some degree.
Besides...where is Germany, Italy, France? This is a European problem and should be handled by the European Union army.
Does the EU even have an army? Air power?
If the corrupt elements in Ukraine, of which there are plenty, have any sense at all, nothing. Destroyed or no longer in the country.
Hell, Poroshenko (had fled to Poland due to prosecution in Ukraine) did that. (Well, I don’t know if he’s dead yet, but yesterday he reported his militia “battalion” was out of Javelins, had 2 machine guns, and not enough rifles.) (He was pretty pleased to report how well the Javelins worked, though.)

I can somewhat accept some of the poorer countries “not doing their share”. But countries like Germany are a disgrace!
To be fair, part of the idea of the US shouldering most of the burden was to avoid having a bunch of “powers” in Europe butting heads militarily sometime in the future.
Probably, it should have been stipulated much more strictly that once their economies recovered, the Euro NATO countries yearly repay most of US’ expenses, which monies in turn could only go to providing them protection.
