That actually is one hell of a doomsday device.
Wish the White House occupant was still Donald “heel to head” Trump!
It absolutely is. If they, the Ukrainians, threaten to detonate it, it would pollute a great deal of eastern, and some of western, Europe.
“west to east”
That’s probably why the Russians want to capture Chernobyl.
Originally when Chernobyl happened I remember reading the radioactive dust was blown this way and landed in Arizona.
Prior to this invasion Chernobyl was a tourist attraction (?)https://travel2next.com/ukraine-landmarks-monuments/#16-_Chernobyl
For those not old enough to remember, all radios in the 50s and 60s had those tick marks at 640/1240 on the dial.
CONELRAD (Control of Electromagnetic Radiation)
The Conqueror (1956 film) , filmed in Utah, not too far from the Nevada Test Site. Of the 220 film crew members, 91 (comprising 41.36% of the crew) developed cancer during their lifetime, while 46 (or 20.91%) died from it.
Explain to the youngsters here what those were if you please.
I know..
BTW, were you ever told not to eat the snow back then when you were little?
“It has fallout in it”

As for not eating snow, I grew up in SoCal so, no that was not part of common lore there! I did, however, spend summers in Southern Idaho during the times of atomic bomb tests and it was ‘common knowledge’ that the weather would be ‘funny’ after the tests.
Radioactive dust? Now I’ve heard everything.

Thank you for the explanation on the dial presets and related other stations suspending broadcasts. Being raised in the 70s, this was interesting bit on info to learn. Think all i got was the tail end of practicing hiding under the desk while at school.
They said John Wayne developed cancer from smoking, but I think it was from starring in that film.
If you look at a car radio in a 50s car, you’ll se the marks.
Not last time.
