Thanks, that’s a good reminder. I’m also told running a gas tank to almost empty can cause crud in the bottom of the tank to go to the motor.

There are typically two filters, one is a “sock” type fabric filter at the pump inlet. That one just keeps big stuff out of the pump. Then a cartridge filter between the pump and the injectors or carb. So if those are in place, the engine should stay clean. Unlike the engine oil filter, there’s no bypass valve on the fuel filter. When it plugs up the engine should starve of fuel.
