The 2022 Winter Olympics that wrapped up in China over the weekend have been a ratings disaster for NBC, leaving the major network questioning its $7.75 billion investment that gave it exclusive US media rights to the Games through 2032.
The New York Times called the Olympic Games "a joyless spectacle," while other media adjectives include "the low bar of avoiding total disaster." According to the Associated Press, through Tuesday, an average of 12.2 million watched the Olympics in primetime on NBC, cable, or its Peacock streaming service, a 42-percent dip from the 2018 Winter Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
"Only 10 million watched NBC alone, a 47-percent drop from 2018, and through early last week, it was down 57 percent in the critical 25-54 age demographic from the Seoul games," Fox News reported, noting the Super Bowl viewership boost NBC got from airing the Olympics right after the network aired the game.

gee, what a shame...
The Olympics were on?
The Olympics are done? I didn’t watch one minute of it. Same goes for the Super Bowl, Super Bowl commercials, or its halftime show.
I watched some of the Super Bowl, but I’m on antenna so they didn’t make a cent out of it.
There was an Olympics this year? I didn’t notice.
Bwah hah hah hah hah...
Here’s the irony:
NBC made Simone Biles the centerpiece of their Olympic coverage last summer for the Tokoyo games. She dropped out.
NBC made Mikela Schiffrin the centerpiece of the Winter Olympics the past month. She DQ’d in a bunch of races and never medaled.
Felt bad for Schiffrin though- at least she did not make excuses.
So?
NBC is a DISASTER!
I didn’t waste a minute on the Han slaver Wokelympics. A burning dumpster fire of bullshit.
Ditto ... got zero use for ‘em!
I got you all beat.
never watched one second of it, including the Stupid Bowl. I dont even know which teams played..
Side note: Those on a TV service (cable, satellite, streaming) that provides local channels are paying for the broadcast TV companies through the re-transmission fees, which have gone through the roof.
We watch next to zero on our local channels (usually when there is severe weather coming), but we're paying the local channel fees. It sucks. I can't get my wife to cut the cord for various reasons.
Even those households who have "cut the cord" and are utilizing services like Hulu Live, YouTube TV, or fuboTV have the re-transmission fees buried in their costs.
For the past thirty years or so the Olympics has been seen as an inexhaustable cash cow which could be infinitely milked, kneaded, mined, and bled for infinite amounts of money because it’s THE OLYMPICS. It has long been run by grifters, for grifters.
I suspect a good amount of the “numbers” have been exaggerated by those watching short Olympic videos on YouTube.
And lots more!
The Super Bowl was on? I thought that happened after the March Madness playoffs thing.
I watched some hockey and watched a little figure skating with my wife.
The NBC cowtowing to the Chinese by featuring American traitor girl, Eileen Gu was disgusting. It sent me off NBC Olympics numerous times.
If they would have discussed and covered no problem. But they literally FEATURED HER. That had to come by Chinese demand.
“The wonderful girl born in SanFrancisco....blah blah blah.
The little liberal gyp sold out her country for Chinese endorsement dollars and bonuses from the govt.
