If there is further escalation, it might come on the oceans-most likely the Black Sea, and a few NATO ships will disappear.
Economic sanctions will fail because Russia has just 16% of its banking relying on foreign currency. Russia supplies the western Euro nations with 50% of its oil. Red China will absorb all that oil and energy and gladly make up the shortcomings from the western nations sanctions. So, are we going to sanction Red China also? If not, then the sanctions are a failure at the very beginning.
Somebody was allowed to get hold all the cards and it aint the western nations.
