The US Marines are getting ready for the unthinkable: war with China – As the world is watching the situation in Ukraine with bated breath, thousands of U.S. Marines teamed up with a US Navy carrier strike group in one of the largest shows of force in the Indo-Pacific.
For the past week, 7,500 Marines from II Marine Expeditionary Force simulated the defense of an island from a Chinese military invasion. The USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group supported the Marines with integrated naval and air power.

The only thing an American flotilla will do in the event of a Chinese attack on Taiwan will be to stay 200 miles east of Taiwan and be a diversion that the Chinese will observe and perhaps keep forces in reserve in the unlikely event that the US engages. It won’t.
The US and NATO sent huge amounts of weapons to Ukraine and supported Ukraine diplomatically. Absolutely no one will come to the aid of Taiwan.
Japan, for example, has a good relationship with Taiwan, and the Japanese people have a strong affinity for the Taiwanese. Besides, Japan knows that after Taiwan, China is coming after them.
Since the Chinese can sink our ships with missiles anywhere near China, sounds like a bad idea.

Yes, but this time half of our forces will be fighting in skirts like Corporal Klinger. Or busy recovering from surgery: “Private Littlebum reporting for sexual reassignment, Sir/Ma’am/Thing/Critter”.
That’s a neat trick since they have no ballistic missiles save for an MLRS type that is not the ne plus ultra of naval warfare, and no coast artillery of any kind or experience with direct fire. The USMC also has ZERO tanks or Self Propelled Arty.
And at the moment, all USMC Amtracs are forbidden from entering the water except for a war emergency. Crazy times.
I hope the Marines have done their Environmental Impact Statements and Climate Change assessment and done all their LBTQZYX and CRT training before setting out on this exercise.
It will be interesting to see how the Marines do without their tanks, artillery and amphibious craft, against an enemy that has all three.
Sadly, for the fate and people of Taiwan, this is the most likely analysis.
Did anyone stop Hong Kong from being absorbed? No shots were even fired by the natives.
Putin has laid the blueprint for the justification now as well. Reunification with the motherland, no matter what those actually living there want.
But the biggest issue for the US is, it may not be capable pf fighting a war with China, who it is so dependent on for goods and services.
Imagine trying to cook a meal when the local grocery store shuts its doors to you and you can’t buy any food. That is very possibly the situation we would quickly find ourselves in, and have no one else to blame.
