The White House said President Biden would soon issue an executive order that would ban new investment, trade and financing by US people and entities in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
“This EO [executive order] will also provide authority to impose sanctions on any person determined to operate in those areas of Ukraine,” said Jen Psaki, White House press secretary. “We will also soon announce additional measures related to today’s blatant violation of Russia’s international commitments.”
Psaki said the measures were separate from the economic sanctions the US has threatened to impose if Putin invades Ukraine. “We are continuing to closely consult with Allies and partners, including Ukraine, on next steps and on Russia’s ongoing escalation along the border with Ukraine.”

Recipes for borscht?
We had nice low gas prices during President Trumps admin. but the price of oil was so low that our higher cost production areas like N. Dakota stopped pumping/drilling. So we needed oil (no longer independent) and started importing again, including some from Russia. Now oil is going up (I read that $80 is the tipping point) and the higher cost producers will go to work again. So we have a choice—low oil prices and reduced production, or higher cost gas and greater national fuel independence.
Now we will be selling some of our liquid natural gas to Europe to help with their loss of Russian supplies. So jobs for our gas producers, and money for this country.
I think one smart move would have been to announce...”Yes we too support the sovereignty of the break away regions and their right for self determination to choose their own destinies apart from Ukrainian or Russian influence. We call for a people’s plebiscite to determine whether they wish to be under Russian, Ukraine, or their own control.
Too late now.
