Because the US is the biggest, richest, most powerful country in the world, and “with great power comes great responsibility”. So any problem that you refuse to deal with, because it’s not your problem, becomes your problem. The thief you refused to stop, kills your Uncle Ben. The Japanese, when you won’t sell them oil on account of their behavior in Manchuria, attack Pearl Harbor. So, too, unless you have a coherent and effective response to Russia/Ukraine, it will eventually bite you in the a@@ in ways you couldn’t foresee. Better to do something by it now, so as to avoid a war involving your sons and daughter and maybe you, too, because wars suck, and nuclear bombs make the consequences of neglecting world affairs until they degenerate into a war unthinkable.

So Russia/Ukraine is going to be a problem for the USA one way or another, and a proactive strategy is about the only way you can control what sort of problem and how bad, and only if it’s a smart proactive strategy, and only through G-d’s kindness even then. Too bad we have a reactive nitwit in the WH, who sends a complete ditz over there to not handle it, rather than mis-handling it himself, the same way that she didn’t handle the border. It’s all going to be all of our problems eventually. And we’re in big trouble.
