Luhansk is controlled by Russian backed rebels. Why would the rebels or Russians blow up their own pipeline? Their own source of heat and income?

TASS (if to be believed) now reporting a second explosion in the pipeline 40 minutes after the first.
Actually, Putin does benefit. He can claim Ukraine blew up the pipeline causing Europe to lose natural gas. He can now invade Ukraine and claim he is restoring the pipeline so Europeans will not go cold the rest of the Winter.
